Hello, how are you, Music community? Today I bring you a post about the rock band called PXNDX. They are a Mexican band I used to listen to when I was younger. Although they have different styles of music, most of it is melancholic and expresses a lot of emotion. Above all, let's remember that back then the great José Madero was the lead singer of the band, and the songs he wrote were deeply emotional.
Well, the song I want to analyze is called "Ya No Jalaba" ("It Didn't Work Anymore"). It comes from the album La Revancha del Príncipe Charro and was released in 2003. Now, without further ado, I will analyze the song along with my personal opinion and the feelings this piece brings up.
Well, I initially started liking the band PXNDX because of the rhythm of their lyrics. The first song I listened to back in the day was "Narcisista por Excelencia," which was huge among the youth at the time and was widely played.
Also, in the music video for "Narcisista por Excelencia," you can see the band's style and outfit choices from that era. While this was my first introduction to PXNDX, I gradually fell in love with their songwriting.
There is an album that is practically pure sadness titled Para Ti Con Desprecio. I really liked it as well, and I will bring you an analysis of one of its tracks sometime. I share this background so you know how I discovered their music.
Now, let's learn more about the song "Ya No Jalaba."
The story behind the song is that one of the band members, Ongi, had ended a relationship with a girl at that time. Because of that, the lyrics convey feelings of disappointment, sadness, moving on, or as the slang phrase "ya no jalaba" implies, a situation where a relationship simply didn't work out anymore and it was time to move in a different direction.
Although breaking up with someone can hurt at first, over time one heals and recovers peace and tranquility.
Now, you just have to watch the music video. Click this link to see what made an impact besides the lyrics. The video features a unique animation style where the members look like claymation figures.
It was a technique used during that era which, combined with the lyrics, points to the theme of acceptance after a relationship ends—acknowledging that if things are no longer working, it is best to end them. It's about analyzing what went wrong, and if two people need to go their separate ways, that's okay. All that's left is to be grateful and move forward.
Personally, I like meeting girls with whom I share common ground, but if something stops working, you express your gratitude, move on, and keep the memories—whether good or challenging. Something always stays in your mind, haha.
There is a phrase in the lyrics that catches my attention: "things change, it's better to say goodbye." Here I agree: when someone changes their tastes or perhaps develops feelings for someone else, it is best to say goodbye, at least to the romantic relationship. I believe it is possible to remain friends with an ex, though speaking from experience, it isn't always easy. It is part of personal growth and accepting things as they are.
As for these lines from the song:
I didn't see you the same anymore
I let time pass by
To see if one day you would notice
But that never happened...
I analyze it like this: when someone stops acting the same or stops doing certain things, you notice that something is going on. Time makes everything clear regarding where a relationship stands.
Furthermore, you realize how interest wanes over time. Communication can sometimes clear up misconceptions, but time generally reveals a lot and helps decide whether to stay or take a new direction. That is how I interpret those lines.
The song conveys feelings of sadness, anger, and resignation. Sometimes I enjoy a song without necessarily experiencing what the lyrics describe—I just like it for how it sounds. Nonetheless, I enjoy analyzing the emotions behind it.
Even though something failing can bring me feelings of anger or sadness for a few weeks, I eventually accept it and turn the page. What usually weighs the most is breaking out of the routine built with that person. The brain heals and adapts to new activities, especially those you enjoy most. In my case, I stay focused on my goals, achievements, and meeting new people.
If you would like to read the full lyrics to this song and analyze its emotions yourself, you can find them by searching for the song on Google or visiting major lyrics directories online.
Thank you very much for reading my reflections on "Ya No Jalaba" by PXNDX, from the album La Revancha del Príncipe Charro. See you soon with another song review!
