I was never really much of a user of Instagram. I got involved with social media during a time when everyone was using Facebook but I tired with that and wasn't going to replace one waste of time thing with another so I largely had nothing to do with Insta. I get that it is all the rage for other people and for them I say go for it. I don't really feel the need for outside endorsement or approval of my life so I don't bother.
The other day someone told me about a family member who had become and influencer so I reluctantly installed IG Lite on my phone to have a look at it. Then after looking at and "liking" those couple of videos as well as sharing them to my non existent audience I scrolled around a bit.
It didn't surprise me that IG already knew a bit about my interests. I take some level of care to not leave a digital footprint but they get us all somehow. So I watched a few things and started to quickly realize that almost all of these videos are completely AI generated, staged, or scripted while pretending to look like organic content.
This one the girl was nervous to take off her sweats but then when she did all the dudes around here took off their tops in solidarity. It was not AI but it was clearly staged and also really stupid.
This one with a dog jumping off the top rope to pin someone in WWE... I'm ok with that. This is what AI is for in my opinion.
This one pissed me off because it takes a very real problem, does nothing to help that problem, then monetizes it presumably to benefit the bank accounts of the person who made it. The idea here was kind of cool but it becomes pretty clear that it is all AI. Good looking AI sure, but AI nontheless.
A group of people are gathered that all want to adopt a rescue animal, then the door opens and the dogs, one at a time, will run out and the dog chooses who their new owner will be. As soon as the dog runs up to or sits on a human attendee that dog is now theirs. Cute right? heartwarming? Awesome! Every single person in the background stands up and applauds at the same time when a person is chosen that this dog, who is a shelter dog and probably emotionally damaged doesn't freak out at all when dozens of people all start screaming at the same time? GTFOH.
How about doing an actual one of these, and actually filming one of them, and then donating all the money your stupid ass reel or whatever it is called to an animal foundation?
This one duped me a bit at the start. People get into the Uber and the music that is playing is about them. It describes their clothes, their glasses, how they are sitting, what their Uber destination is and the passenger eventually asks the driver "what's going on?" and the driver claims to not have been listening and changes the song and it is similar. This goes on until they both start laughing.
In reality, uber drivers would get attacked for this or the person in the back would have headphones in and not even hear it anyway. This is staged, the banter is very formulaic, and once you have seen a couple of them they are stupid.
Nothing is real anymore
Then we've got these street magicians that just walk up to "random" people and do things like start messing with their food, take their phones from them, or touch them and stuff and everyone just sits there at takes it. all while a rather large camera setup sits right in front of them. Nobody lashes out and hits a mofo for touching their food or grabbing their phone either.
It's STUPID even if the tricks are good.
Before exiting IG(lite) for good I did want to go into the comments sections of these things to see if people were calling out the AI and how fake and staged all of this was and you had to go really far down to find anyone that said anything like that. The hundreds of comments that come before that are very generic statements of congrats and are "liked' "hearted" or whatever the fuck it is called by dozens or hundreds of other accounts.
So not only are the videos fake, but a large majority of all of the comments and upvotes are as well.
I don't want anything to do with this crap.
