I should write one of these posts about fun songs. I started to write about some protest music, but got a feeling of déjà vu as I wrote, and a quick search says I shared them before. I'm not in the mood to delete what I wrote already, so if you want to see that, check behind the spoiler.
Songs I posted before
The General
In the 1960s and '70s, war protest songs were sparked by the Vietnam War. In the 2000s, the Global War on Terror sparked more. In between, especially after the Cold War fizzled out, songs tended to be less specific and more... general. I didn't hear this when it released, but it definitely saw a boom in popularity as Bush's wars lost their veneer of righteous vengeance.

Student Edward
Up next is a song from a now-defunct local Spokane folk band, the Celtic Nots. I assume the name is because some of their music is Celtic, and some is not. While this recording is from 2004, it is a cover of a Peggy Seeger & Ewan MacColl song from 1973. As such, it hearkens back to the Vietnam era protests, or perhaps the Troubles in Ireland, or any number of other protest movements and police abuses. Timeless.
Time to abandon that idea and start over. I'll try to find songs you almost certainly have never heard before. Time for obscure deep cuts from '90s Christian alternative bands! But first, a brief tangent.
While composing this post, I got a notification from @hivebuzz that today is my 10th birthday on Hive, so happy birthday to me! I'm here for the long haul, no matter the market cap. It's been a roller coaster ride ever since I joined on Steemit too late for the initial bubble, but despite market chaos, perpetual grifters abusing the reward pool, a blockchain coup, a hard fork to a new blockchain name, and so much more, we're still here.

'Bartholomew Higgins' must've been written in late '91 or early '92 [...] The song title actually came from Aaron & Jesse's dad, Dave, who just happened to say that name as we were trying to decide on a song title. Scum Sweetheart
Audio Adrenaline was one of the bigger bands in the Christian Rock scene, but this song is an outlier in their catalog.
We met long ago with a flirt and a stare, Together ever since, a lethal love affair. I tried to get out, to get up and go, I was afraid of the fall, the vertigo. You made me suffer, guilt was your game, You had control of what I became, A rotten romance, if I'd stayed I'd die, 'Twas a fond farewell when I said goodbye...
If you'll pardon some preachy pontification here, I see many American Christians returning to that lethal love affair today as nationalism demands we embrace theft, murder, hate, lies, and deceit as if they are sanctified by waving the flag.

Chem 6A
It might be the most 90s alternative song you never heard, except this one might have managed to breach the insular CCM industry containment. It got a proper video at least. Switchfoot eventually earned real mainstream attention, but this is from before their "big break" with film soundtrack success on A Walk to Remember (2002). I had this song on a sampler compilation album. Remember those? Are they still a thing?
