War Machine, Motor City, the Reacher series, and this movie are just a few of the projects featuring him so far this year. What’s behind this phenomenon? Is he really that good of an actor? I think he’s one of the best action actors out there right now because, despite being a massive powerhouse, he knows how to handle scenes requiring combat, speed, skill, and agility—plus, he has an innate knack for the genre. A common thread across these productions is that he takes a brutal beating, yet the damage he sustains pales in comparison to the devastation he inflicts; that’s the nature of his characters—they are built to destroy anything that stands in their way or poses a problem.
El 2026 que está teniendo Alan Ritchson es demencial, por algo creo que es el actor de moda del momento. War Machine, Motor City, la serie de Reacher y esta película, son algunas de las cosas que pueden ver de él en lo que va de año. Por qué se dará este fenómeno?, es tan buen actor así? - creo que como actor de acción es de los mejores en la actualidad porque el tipo, a pesar de que es una mole, sabe llevar a cabo las típicas escenas en donde se necesita pelea, rapidez, destreza y agilidad además que de manera innata se la da bien el género. Lo que tienen en común estas producciones es que en todas lo muelen a golpes y a pesar de eso el daño que recibe no se compara con la magnitud del daño que termina dando; sus personajes son así, hechos para destruir todo lo que sea un obstáculo o problema para él.
Here we have Hank (Alan Ritchson), a former Navy SEAL living in Brisbane, Australia. He works as a deliveryman—though not the typical kind; he is hired to transport a wide variety of items, making him a high-stakes courier. One day, his boss Iggy calls with a lucrative yet highly delicate assignment: transporting a medical organ for a transplant and rushing it to the hospital so the patient—in this case, a young girl with cancer—can receive it. So far, so good. Then, out of nowhere, people start chasing Hank and Ben (Owen Wilson)—the handler responsible for the organ—in an attempt to steal it.
Por acá tenemos a Hank (Alan Ritchson) un ex Navy Seal que está viviendo en Brisbane, Australia. Él es una especie de repartidor pero no como se conocen normalmente, le piden que transporte cualquier variedad de cosas lo que lo convierte en un mensajero de alto riesgo. Un buen día su jefe Iggy lo llama por teléfono para pedirle un encargo que paga bien y el cual es muy delicado: transportar un órgano médico, para un trasplante, y llevarlo al hospital lo más rápido posible para que lo reciba la persona enferma que en este caso es una niña con cáncer. Todo bien hasta ahí. De la nada comienzan a aparecer personas persiguiendo a Hank y a Ben (Owen Wilson), el manejador y responsable del órgano, para tratar de robarlo.
Who are these people? They are members of a drug cartel operating in Australia who—thanks to their connections and use of coercion—found out that the organ was arriving in the city. Essentially, Hank and Ben’s mission is to get to the hospital by any means necessary, all while fending off the cartel’s henchmen. It is a race against time, as the organ has a limited "shelf life" and cannot remain outside a human body for long; it must arrive by a specific deadline to work and—naturally—save the little girl's life. You can easily imagine the scale of the action in this film. Owen Wilson’s presence adds a touch of comedy; there is a lighthearted humor that works well—it isn't intrusive, but it does manage to get a laugh out of you now and then. The film keeps you glued to the screen, delivering breakneck action from start to finish.
Quienes son esas personas? - pues integrantes de un cartel de drogas de operan en Australia y que por tener contactos y estar coaccionando a las personas se enteraron que dicho órgano llegaría a la ciudad. Basicamente el trabajo de Hank y de Ben será llegar al hospital, de la forma que sea y por los medios que sea, al mismo tiempo que hacen frente a estos tipos que trabajan para dicho cartel. La película es en contrarreloj porque ese órgano tiene una "vida útil" por lo que no puede estar mucho tiempo fuera de un cuerpo humano, tiene que llegar antes de una hora especifica para que funcione y salvar la vida de esta niña, lógicamente. Ya se pueden imaginar las dimensiones de acción que se ven este film. Además de esto que esté Owen Wilson le de el toque de comedia que tiene la película, porque si, hay un humor ligero que no cae mal; no es invasivo pero si es ese que de vez en cuando te saca una risa. El film no va a dejar que pestañees, es una acción trepidante de principio a fin.
The action scenes are wild because they have a unique quality: everything is slightly exaggerated—and I don't mean that in a bad way; it’s purely a visual choice. For instance, if someone gets hit by a shotgun blast, instead of dropping half a meter away, they fly back two meters. This creates a spectacular visual effect, and it really works. Ritchson excels at hand-to-hand combat; the fights are insane—gunfire, broken bones, bodies flying—making it all very graphic and entertaining to watch. Then there are the city chase scenes; a couple of them are excellent, and they’re always a welcome addition. As for the plot, I’d say it’s fairly average, though the script has some really cool elements. Certain narrative choices prevent the film from following a strictly linear path, leading to unexpected moments—though mind you, these aren't "plot twists" in the sense that they alter the actual ending. You can guess how it concludes based on the premise, but the way it gets there involves some interesting developments.
Las escenas de acción son una locura porque tienen una particularidad, todo es mínimamente exagerado y esto no lo digo como algo malo, es un tema netamente visual. Por ejemplo, alguien recibe un escopetazo y en vez de caer a medio metro, cae a dos. Lo que genera esto es vistosidad y miren que funciona. A Ritchson se la da muy bien el enfrentamiento mano a mano, las peleas son una locura, disparos, huesos rotos, cuerpos volando, es algo muy gráfico y entretenido de ver. A esto hay que sumarle escenas de persecución en la ciudad, hay un par que está muy buenas y que siempre son necesarias. A nivel de trama pues les diría que es bastante promedio, si tiene sus cosas en el guion que para mi están muy cool, hay decisiones que hacen que la película no sea la más lineal de todas y que por tanto sean inesperadas, ojo, no son plot twist porque no cambian el final como tal. Por su fondo puedes saber como termina pero en su forma pasan cosas interesantes.
Asking Alan Ritchson to switch up his roles is pointless because he is clearly a niche actor; he has found his sweet spot—what he’s truly good at—and he’s going to capitalize on that with every future character he takes on. Do all his characters seem the same? Yes; I said as much when I reviewed Motor City. They each have their own personality nuances, but at their core, they are identical: tough guys, men of few words who remain mostly stoic, with backstories that—while not necessarily traumatic—are rich in life experience. Owen Wilson serves as the counterpoint to soften things up; he’s the guy who doesn’t fight—funny, talkative, and always ready with an ice-breaking remark. I’d say he’s the perfect complement for this type of story. All in all, it’s a great movie—incredibly entertaining and action-packed. There’s drama, too—it has its somber moments—delivering exactly what you’d expect from a film starring Ritchson. It runs just over an hour and a half, which is the ideal length. Highly recommended; it’s well worth watching.
Pedirle a Alan Ritchson que cambie de papeles es algo tonto porque claramente es un actor de nicho, él encontró en donde es realmente bueno y eso lo va a explotar con todos los personajes que le vengan en un futuro. Que todos los personajes parecieran ser el mismo? - si, eso lo dije cuando reseñé Motor City. Todos tienen sus matices en la personalidad pero en esencia son iguales: tipos rudos, de pocas palabras, inexpresivos en la mayor parte del tiempo y con un pasado no traumático pero lleno de vivencias y experiencias. Owen Wilson está como la contraparte para suavizar todo, es el tipo que no pelea, que es gracioso, hablador, con comentarios para romper el hielo; diría que el complemento perfecto para este tipo de tramas. En fin, la película es muy buena, es increíblemente entretenida, llena de acción, hay drama porque si, tiene sus partes de bajón; es todo lo que esperas en un film en donde Ritchson forma parte. Dura poco más de hora y media, tiempo ideal. Super recomendada, vale mucho la pena verla.
