Splinterlands: Thanalorian Blade is great when combined with Underboss Fabino

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Thanalorian Blade.

Featured cards

image.png Thanalorian Blade is an Earth monster that costs 6 mana. It starts with opportunity. It learns execute at level 2, lookout at level 3, and trample at level 6. I actually have this card at level 3, and it's one of the current epic cards available in the Glint shop. Unfortunately, my summoners in modern only allow me to use the card up to level 2, though. So I can't use the lookout ability.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The rulesets this time is Standard. This means that there are no extra modifiers. There are also 60 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for water and death.

Splinter Mana Cost Position Reason
Underboss Fabino 5 Summoner +2 melee or poison
Mantaroth 11 1st Shield and Armored Strike
Lord Thanalor 12 2nd Amplify
Mad Ogre Anarchist 6 3rd Opportunity
Thanalorian Blade 6 4th Opportunity and Execute
Husk of the Hunter 9 5th Sneak and Headwinds
Quilliun Legionary 8 6th Thorns and Close Range
Total Mana: 57

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Underboss Fabino for the +2 melee damage on two monsters. My tank is Mantaroth with shield and armored strike, followed by Lord Thanalor as a backup tank. Next, my opportunity monsters are there followed by my ranged monsters.

Round 1

round 1.png At first glance, I think that this match can go either way, but I have a slight advantage. I have more damage than my opponent, but my opponent has quite a few magic monsters plus taunt.

Round 5

round 5.png A few rounds later, my opponent has 1 monster left, but I still have 3 of mine. This match is my win because I doubt I will miss all my attacks.

conclusion.png I won the match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned. My high-health monsters did a great job of tanking the hits while the rest of my lineup dealt damage. Thanalorian Blade's execute was quite useful because it helped cleaned up a few monsters and made this fight faster. It might have come a bit close if my ranged monsters ended up moving up to the front, so I am glad that I didn't miss many attacks.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

The output damage difference is also a factor in winning the match

The execute ability of Thanalorian Blade is very useful in that match !HBIT

funny that the blade sits at level 3 in your collection but modern caps it at 2. do you think lookout would have changed anything in this one, or did execute already do all the cleanup you needed?

I love the execute ability of Thanalorian Blade. It is a delight to watch.
