I've spoken about this topic a lot over the years...
For decades, my favorite verse in the bible was always Proverbs 16:18. For those that may not know it off by heart, here is what it states:
Not only does this sum up everything that is wrong with the world, I can speak from personal experience...This is as true as it gets.
There was a time in my life where I was super proud. I had a big ego. Treated people like garbage, and thought I knew everything there was to know.
God served me a slice of humble pie, and honestly, I'm still in recovery mode. That verse helped me discover my faith and over the years, that 'favorite verse' got a companion..
This has become my go to verse in scripture! Not only did Jesus preach this during His sermon on the mount, but I truly believe this captures the Christian experience.
Let me explain....
When I was in the world and 'proud', what had my attention was money, alcohol, music, sex, women and living in sin. And while this was going on, I thought there was nothing wrong with it.
I never felt fulfilled though, and the more I time and spent on these worldly obsessions, the more I needed them. Something didn't feel right....Even though, I had all the money in the world and 'friends' all around...I was miserable.
Then I got humbled, and God started working on my heart. And obviously, unlike some stories you may hear, I didn't just 'snap out of it' in a day.
My conversion took time, even though justification happens in a moment, my sanctification has been...A work in progress lol
One of those new habits I've formed over the years has been to read through the bible. And not just once, I actually try to read through the entire bible multiple times a year.
This is how I truly believe, God turned my obsession for the world, into a passion for His kingdom. Matthew 6:33 was my calling, but I needed some help...
I'm about to take my decade in marketing, and turn it into a bible study lol Give me a second to explain...
If Matthew 6:33 is my new mission statement, then Philippians 4:8 is my marketing strategy.
How am I going to focus and seek His kingdom?
Think on these things.....
Honest things. Just things. Pure things. Lovely things. Good things.
And I am pretty sure you can check all the boxes off when you commit to reading the bible every day.
So a few days ago, I finished my first reading plan of the year.
The Professor Horner #bible reading plan. It was great. About 10 chapters a day, and it took me 225 days to complete.
I'm also reading the M'Cheyne plan with members of the Kingdom community here on chain. That is a 365 day plan and I'm still progressing through it.
But then I decided to start a canonical reading plan that is a very basic run through Genesis to Revelation. While it's scheduled to be a year long plan, I will get a jump on it now and read around 10-15 chapters a day.
Which should get me to the end of the bible around December 31st....Or pretty close to it :)
Of course....This will be a challenge because...
Yeah, if you have read the bible before...You know what I'm talking about lol
