One of the greatest blessings of keeping our nose in between the pages of Scripture are the absolute gems you discover while searching...
One of those said verses that has captured my attention for years is:
This verse is so powerful. And here's the kicker, while this post will have #theological overtones, this is actually some great personal development advice as well.
Follow me here....
Here's the #theology side of the coin first.
The devil is doing everything, and I mean everything to keep you from having a relationship with God. And what is his strategy?
Think about it, he's had thousands of years to study what makes us tick. He's a roaring lion and he's seeking who to devour. And because of that, he uses every trick in the book.
Social media, Netflix, the news, family drama, entertainment, the markets...You name it, the devil knows that every second you spend on the world, that's a second you aren't spending with God.
And all God ever wants is a relationship! And what kind of relationship can take place when there's no time being spent between two parties, so.....That's how the devil attacks us. Or at least, one of the ways...He is a sly fox.
Now let's go back to Philippians 4:8. And really unpack it....
Things that are true? Think on them!
Things that are honest? Think on them!
Things that are just? Think on them!
Things that are pure? Think on them!
Lovely? Think on them! Good report? Think on them! Any virtue, any praise...Think on these things!
And now let's add some good ol' fashioned personal development advice to this. It's something I learned years ago and used to spend hours training and teaching this lesson....
Think of an elephant! What are you thinking about?
And elephant!
Think of a car! Are you thinking about a car now?
You see, the human brain can only hold one thought at a time. I'm not saying you can't have your mind on many things, but it's only one thought...At any given moment.
So combine that knowledge of the human mind, with the advice found in Philippians. Think on these things....
Do you see how powerful Scripture is for us?
If our mind is filled with good things, stuff that focuses on God, we cannot sin! We cannot be separated from God because our minds are always set on higher things.
This is so powerful and it's a technique I've really tried to mastered over the years. Way before I was a follower of Christ, wayback in my online entrepreneurial days. I knew that I needed to focus on the positive, and never the negative or else I attracted the negative.
Try it out! Spend some time in prayer and ask God to fill your mind with nothing but good things. Think of the kingdom of God. Think of this bible verse...I guarantee things start clearing up, real quick :)
