Someone made a comment somewhere on a Facebook page, and the person was commenting about how a grown man who was in his 60s was weeping because his colleague had just died from stage 4 cancer.
The person mentioned that a lot of people have not experienced that type of trauma and pain, and many people in life are privileged not to actually do so. I think someone finally understands it.
I've been saying this my whole life, I mean technically when I started losing people. It wasn't like my life before then was perfect, but the pain I came to know from losing my parents and siblings was another level of pain, it felt like life was hopeless, I couldn't see a need to continue going on, everything was blurry and I became extremely angry and hurt that no one felt what I was feeling.
I lost friends and relationships, and I became a loner. In reality pain is distinct, and one of the most controversial things I've come to know is that if people were sensitive to pain, or if everyone, or at least a huge percentage of the human population have felt pain on a really deep level then everyone would understand what it feels like, which will ironically make humans understand empathy at the base level.
A society of mindless people
The Internet is filled with people laughing at the health conditions of others, others racially abusing others. On Twitter the other day, I saw someone making fun of another person who had down syndrome.
The whole reality becomes a joke because we have a bunch of people who are our colleagues at work, our landlords, family, friends or even complete strangers who have never truly felt the empathy that comes from feeling real pain.
However it's just the nature of reality, it's unfair and this state of unfairness is makes life cruel. This is what makes me think that on a deeper level humans are supposed to create or develop their own sense of empathy and not always look to the universe.
The universe
The universe is not built to function the way we want, if anything, the universe is quite harsh and horrible, and this is why we cannot depend on the nature of the universe to live, it'll bring out the beast inside of us, it'll take away our humanity and we're going to be lost as a specie.
I think pain is the only ultimate thing that makes people have empathy.
In many situations, most of the people I've seen without empathy are those who have not really experienced tough times, their life feels incredibly easy, and the universe seems to favor them and became of that, they probably don't feel the need to show empathy, or they've probably lost it because they're living in their own bubble.
While being compassionate is a value that we can have from just being regular people, I think most times, we learn it from going through horrible times.
Shared feelings & experience
Another thing is that experiencing sadness and pain are profound aspects of the human condition. These emotions, while difficult, can often lead to deeper self-understanding and empathy.
Acknowledging these feelings, rather than resisting them, can be a pathway to healing. Through shared experiences, we can find comfort and realize we are not alone in our struggles.
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of "shared experiences" because a lot of people go through things on their own, and even when you go to rehab and all that stuff, people are still going through their own problems by themselves.
Their shrink or whoever is helping them is just a random stranger who don't know whatever they're going through, and just paid to say a few things to them and just gets paid.
In life you're truly alone in your experiences and sadness and unfortunately a lot of the people around you haven't felt the same thing you're feeling. A man is always encouraged to move on when they're in pain, so life is just a place where people are taught to move on quickly, no matter what happens to them.
