I believe that serving others is a calling that stays with us throughout our entire lives. Today, I had planned to enjoy my day off a day I now try to set aside for attending church, keeping my commandments, and nurturing my relationship with God. A colleague asked me personally for my help; at first, I declined, wanting to honor the day of rest I had set apart. However, after she persisted, I eventually agreed not so much because of her persistence, but because a genuine desire to help her grew within me.
This experience made me realize that opportunities to serve do not always arise at the most convenient times or in the ways we might expect. Sometimes, they emerge right in the middle of our own plans, inviting us to think of others. I want to continue cultivating this willingness to help, as I believe that serving is a way to show love for our neighbor and put the teachings of Jesus Christ into practice. I also want to learn to serve with wisdom, without losing sight of the commitments I have made to God. Ultimately, service should not be something we do only occasionally; rather, it should be an attitude we carry with us throughout our lives.
Creo que servir a los demás es una labor que nos acompaña durante toda la vida. Hoy tenía pensado disfrutar de mi día libre, que ahora procuro reservar para asistir a la Iglesia, guardar mis mandamientos y dedicar tiempo a mi relación con Dios. Una compañera del trabajo me pidió personalmente que la apoyara y, al principio, me negué porque quería respetar ese día de reposo que he decidido apartar. Sin embargo, después de insistir varias veces, terminé aceptando, no tanto por la insistencia, sino porque también nació en mí el deseo de ayudarla.
Esta situación me hizo pensar en que el servicio no siempre aparece en el momento más conveniente ni de la manera que esperamos. A veces se presenta en medio de nuestros propios planes y nos invita a pensar en los demás. Quiero seguir cultivando esa disposición de ayudar, porque creo que servir es una forma de demostrar amor al prójimo y poner en práctica las enseñanzas de Jesucristo. También quiero aprender a hacerlo con sabiduría, sin olvidar los compromisos que he hecho con Dios. Al final, servir no debería ser algo que hacemos de vez en cuando, sino una disposición que llevamos con nosotros durante toda la vida.
