Open Letter To Steem Community

Hello Steem Community!

With so much happening in Steem right out the gates for me and everyone at Tron and Steemit Inc, such as the launch of Communities and a soft fork 22.2 we weren’t expecting, I feel it is important to show you guys I am here and ready to begin building with you. Our team, the Tron folks and Steemit Inc together, are an amazing group of talented people and they are working hard behind the scenes to get our plans together after the acquisition process, which always leaves some open ended questions. It is my plan now to make sure we begin communicating with the Steem community and make sure we are a positive force in making Steem and Steemit 2.0 great.

We have so much to work to do to make Steemit.com the power that it really can be. And there are many ways we can get it there, from bridging TRX, TRC10’s and TRC20’s into Communities to marketing and growing Steemit.com. From invitations and referrals to simpler and instant signups. From new listings of STEEM on ALL the greatest exchanges to integrations in critical hardware products. From bringing more influencers to the community and creating more content. There is so much I still want to give you from documenting and marketing my vision for steemit.com to connecting with the passionate folks here in this community. Steemit team is also regrouping together in San Francisco this coming week, meeting up with the TRON’s developer community teams to discuss on the executable plans.

As such I want to make sure that together the team and community are a positive part of the communications that help to grow this ecosystem, and for that I would like to invite a group of our top 50 Witnesses to our first STEEMit 2.0 Town Hall, which we will hold tentatively on March 6th, 2020 (meeting logistics to follow). At this meeting I am hoping to hear from many Steemian Witness voices to learn and understand how they think we can grow Steem together, and how Steemit Inc can communicate with the witnesses on a regular basis. During the days leading up, I think we can post more information about this event with the help of any community members who tend to run town halls, and they will help make sure we are super effective. Please let us know who we should connect with in the comments! :)

I wish I could take back my upvote for this post. I don't like what you are doing on the Steem blockchain @JustinSunSteemit, you are a disgrace to all people carrying the moniker Justin. And to think you paid several million dollars to eat with Warren Buffet, one of the most evil men on the planet Earth, and his fake love affair with blue collar citizens doesn't fool me. I am only along for the ride, as us low SP content creators are world's apart from the your reality.

You only wrote three paragraphs and didn't even attach one photo for thumbnail purposes. These are basic things veteran Steemians told me to avoid when submitting Steemit posts. But at $247.42 this is definitely way too high of a payout for the minuscule amount of time it took to create. So now I am in the same club as you and Mr. Bieber, and I never even made a conscious choice to sign up for such a club.

You could've used the several million dollars you gave to Warren Buffet to increase curation and post payout rewards to the Venezuelan Steemians struggling to make ends meet each month. !giphy regrets

I do agree, it must be made much easier to open a Steemit account. I have been on Steemit since August 2016, and those days it was easy to open an account and it was free!! If somebody ask me today how to do it, I will be at a loss. Things should not be complicated.

I also don't know why people should have various accounts - just to vote for myself?? I see people advertise that one should claim your free accounts, why accounts should be free, or at least your first account.

Another thing that bugs me is all these hive numbers, why must it be complicated, how do one remember all the numbers, a simple name should do the trick.

It is quite exciting to have you on-board, I am looking forward to the journey ahead!!

I find this letter very hard to read. Not only the way sentences are build but also the things you mention. To be honest I have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps you can keep it a bit simpler for stupid steemians like me?

I am a bit tired of all changes and the huge lack of explanations. Steemit, Steem, Steemit, New Steemit and now Steemit 2.0? Where was the 1.0?

Answering the many pesky and annoying questions would go a long way to begin establishing trust from those who have worked hard to make progress, all without Justin Sun's influence.

Ignoring too many of the same awkward questions over and over makes it look like something shady is going on. It can cause people to panic, suspect the worst, or take unnecessary counter-measures.

A few fluff questions are in order too, to help break the ice.

Favorite food and beverage? Favorite superhero power? What is the naughtiest thing you did when you were little? Boxers or briefs?

Hello and welcome! Thank you for addressing the community. I appreciate it, and I'm sure many others do too. With a lot of unknowns, many have been sceptical, but things seems on the up and many of us value transparency a lot. You seem, as I say, legit. And things seem promising.

I may be but one little rain drop in the entire pool of various fish on Steemit, but we all have the power to create ripples in this sea of potentiality.

While I understand the thought that went into this note was considerable, and the "olive branch" to conduct an AMA for the top 50 witnesses seems like an Ok idea at first, you're openly excluding a whole lot of the STEEM Community by limiting entry to such an event.

You won't get full Steem community participation if you open it up for everyone, but by being willing to let everyone attend and listen, you're showing that you care about transparency .. which is paramount when it comes to a blockchain community. By excluding the rest of the community, you've sent a message (intentional or unintentional) that you don't value transparency.

I'm open to hearing more, and do see potential value from a partnership, but this was not a good start in my opinion @justinsunsteemit. On the plus side for you, most people don't listen to me and don't think how I do, so you're probably doing just fine 👍🙂

So glad you said @justinsunsteemit because to hear you want to help transform steemit to a truly world class platform is what I and so many others really want hear.

I went to use the community. I posted and cannot find my post - don't know how it is doing.

I went to the community because I thought thos was the only way steemit now functioned because my "feed" link on the menu was gone.

I accidently hit the steemit logo and "trending" popped up and I am still able to reach "feed" from there. That's good!

Hi @justinsunsteemit Thank you for reaching out. I think everyone should have an open mind in the talks but also maybe have a meeting with top content creators on this platform who have been around for years. For the most part the Witnesses are selected by a few powerful votes and they fear losing their grip. The price has been bottomed out for awhile and new ideas are welcomed. The attrition rate here has been about 99% and most of the witnesses only care about the rewards they are draining from the system. If it comes down to it do what you need to with this place. It can't get that much worse than the situation it was in. I would love to talk to you about my ideas that would be a game changer for this platform. Brian

I would like you to put on the table for your study the happy "Downvote", since many people use it without any reason.

The Downvote is something that does not benefit any of the parties, it is better to raise awareness through comments, making the relevant criticisms or observations as the case may be, the only thing that should be considered for a Downvote and mute is the plagiarism of information.

I'm sure that my opinion does't matter. I thought that this would be a platform to launch the immutable truth and permanently expose the liars. I don't have a direct access to the internet. How unfortunate. I thought I would be able to earn crypto currency. Everything on Steemit just changes. I seem to feel the censorship in my guts. I can't put my finger on it but it seems to me that the platform has no ability to tap into my personal currency and assist in its appreciation of value. It seems to me that Fiat Babylonian debt digits are in control of this blockchain.

I totally agree on @justinsunsteemit . It should have happened a bit sooner. Also, I disagree with the recent soft-fork and I think it's totally wrong to freeze someone's assets believing blockchain is an open system. It would cause serious trust issues to the upcoming investors as well as normal users. It shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Well, I believe with this meetup, it would be resolved.

I agree wholeheartedly for the need for a Town Hall Summit. I would encourage it to take place over in MSP/PAL discord as many have suggested. The format is suited to a large group discussion. It is important here be frank back and forth.

I would STRONGLY encourage however, that a very neutral moderator be in place.

Frankly, I believe someone like @shadowspub be the host. She's extremely fair and even handed. She is not a witness, and will be able to maintain a fair hand in moderating the discussions.

in addition to top witnesses, I would try and find a way to include some voices of the rest of the community, as well. Perhaps a few thought leaders? representatives of the community at large.

Lastly, many users and witnesses were not in favor of this Soft Fork, and it is important that their voices be heard as well.

Hope steemit inc, Tron, witnesses and you @justinsunsteemit find a way to work things out and make this work for everyone. We all want this to work. Steemit have lots of potential, so much can be achieved if Tron and Steemit work together without killing each other in the process.

@justinsunsteemit, I know about Tron a little bit, however, I don't know you. I've read the articles about the soft fork.

I understand that it was done to protect property and get the large property owners together to figure out a new way forward while keeping the original idea of Steemit alive.

I also understand if negotiations don't go well property owners can hard fork and continue to grow Steemit as intended in the original white paper. I am going to continue reading and studying Justin Sun's leadership skills and how he runs his company.

I didn't like how Steemit ecosystem was over-harvested by the large whales, there was no governance, in fact Steemit almost seemed like a giant money-laundering scheme.

I did actually make some money from posting and working the bid bots. However, the bid bots took all the fun out of my networking and community work, along with very little protection for our fragile ecosystem and poor governance. That's when I left. I'm back because I am a curious cat and I want to be involved because Steemit introduced me to cryptocurrency, which has turned out to be a great investment and way to get paid for social media work and awesome people.

It is really nice to see a response this quickly. I am optimistic that communication between Steemit, Inc., Tron Foundation, witnesses, and the Steem community at large will improve in this new arrangement. Getting STEEM listed on all major exchanges is a huge necessity, but we also need an amazing phone app and all the features of a modern social media platform including internal instant messaging. Gamification and MUCH better UX design will be a must as well so that people feel like they've come forward to what using a crypto-based platform feels like in 2020.

It’s great to see a positive post like this, however it still does not answer the question on everyone’s mind, is Steemit going to migrate over to Tron?

We were told in an AMA that there would be no major changes for now. But since then I have seen no end of conflicting posts from YouTube to Twitter to Steemit and even TRONLINK.

I am sure this is just a little miss communication, and that @justinsunsteemit and/or Tron will be able to provide the Steemit community with a road map soon to provide absolute clarity on steemit’s direction moving forward.

This is great news. Thank you for responding so quickly.

Steemit has clearly needed better leadership for quite some time and I for one am excited to see it taking shape. My hope is this new partnership between Tron and Steemit will also benefit the STEEM token holders and the users of the Steem blockchain who have spent years of their life putting content on this chain. The temporary steps taken in SF22.2 were in response to those users who expected their witnesses to protect their chain. Your response and willingness to reach out to the witnesses and have an open discussion is exactly what I was hoping for. I hope the meetings next week with the Steemit team go fantastically well. The witnesses are ready to engage in conversation to find the best path forward for our communities.

Edit: as for the meeting, I hope for a Zoom video call or Discord audio call where the top witnesses can directly participate but all in the community can listen in.

There are a lot of concerns that our community members, stakeholders, and witnesses have though which I am hoping can be addressed in the coming weeks.

With all confusion and not that great wording of things at the beginning we as a community expected more communication. The Town Hall sound as an improvement.

The spirit of the blockchain movement starts with GPL-style concepts, where we value the community over the guy at the top. Even though having a leader is very useful for having a functional project, we have seen many good projects either become corrupted by people who don't understand WHY we use a blockchain instead of mainstream social media, or we see good projects fail because the leadership does not know HOW to proceed forward into the future.

The most important aspect to me is anti-censorship, and the freedom to write what I want without feeling like someone can track, censor, or advertise to me in the way that every other popular social media website does.

I want to be free, and that's why I use blockchain technology. If you value freedom too, then declare it, and stick to your declaration of freedom.

If you can prove yourself, you will earn our trust and Steem will prosper. If you are false, then this is a dark day.

Thank you for the prompt answer @justinsunsteemit, it is re-assuring and our community witness: @ocd-witness are looking forward to further discussions on how both our chains can collaborate for the best of both worlds. We hope you didn't take our soft-fork as an aggressive move but rather a defensive one as it is a temporary measure and we care a lot about the community, users and this chain after nearly 4 years active here.

The best would be via voice chat, a lot of the witnesses are scattered around the world, it would be a challenge to gather them in a physical location. The community holds numerous weekly chats on Discord, so you're welcome anytime to join us to discuss important matters.

Justin, I think this is the right move. I hope you realize, thru your participation in DPoS, that the Steem witnesses came together to take steps we felt were highly necessary to maintain the status quo and prevent major changes in the seem consensus due to the SteemIt, Inc. stake.

I would be happy to participate in discussions with you, and the rest of the witnesses, to best figure out how we can move forward in the best interest of Steem.

Thanks for the update. I think needs nothing more than marketing. It's a great blockchain and shouldn't be bastardized into another form. I don't remember having ever been interested in Tron as an investment or a community to hang out it but Steem and Steemit is different. Other than marketing its tough to see any major drawbacks that can't be worked through. It's great that you're here just dont crush our throats with your boot and all should be fine.

Good to know that you're around and watching. I hope that you'll extend the meeting to the top 60 witnesses though, so that I may at least attend and listen in.

Here's to hoping that a positive collaboration may begin. It's been a long time since we've seen good progress around here and we're not so easily placated by mere promises anymore.

I think these lines are very good and important for the #steemit community. We will always want the healthy and elevated growth of our beloved platform. Being a Steemian, content creator is more than money, is to put the soul itself in each line published, for many like me, Steemit is a very important part of our lives. I hope and put my best wishes and good vibes for that to be so and we can continue to grow in positive, this platform is much for everyone. I would expand that beyond top 50.. As a former top 20 witness sitting around 70 at the moment would like to be involved as well. Sucks that we had to pull out the nuclear option in order to establish a concise communication between you Justin and the witness community.

Will find a way to be a part of this chat somehow though.

This v0.22.2 soft fork is almost entirely the fault of the FUD that has been flying around. If communications were clear from the get go I do not see that this would have happened how it has.
