Hello, Sketchbook friends! It’s a joy to greet you all here again. Today, I want to share a very special experience regarding how an artist's ideas mature and transform over time. Some time ago, I saved a sketch of a boy on my computer. In the original drawing, the character had a very expressive, forward-facing gaze, but the background was completely empty. I felt it was missing a story to tell. So, I decided to revisit that old illustration and give it a whole new life by recreating the scene in a much richer setting. This time, I wanted to shift the focus of his attention: now, the boy’s intense gaze is directed toward the beautiful, endless sea. To complement the atmosphere of peace and freedom, I added a small sailboat navigating in the distance, fading into the waves and the horizon.
For the final finish, I decided to experiment by mixing materials. First, I added intensity and vibrancy to the background using markers, achieving highly saturated tones for the water and sky. Then, I used colored pencils for smoother gradients and to add texture to the character's skin. I loved rescuing this drawing from obscurity and seeing how the original idea evolved. ¡Hola, amigos de Sketchbook! Qué alegría saludarlos de nuevo por aquí. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una experiencia muy especial sobre cómo las ideas de un artista maduran y se transforman con el tiempo. Hace tiempo, guardé en mi computadora el boceto de un chico. En el dibujo original, el personaje tenía una mirada fija hacia el frente, muy expresiva, pero el fondo estaba completamente vacío. Sentía que le faltaba una historia que contar. Por eso, decidí retomar esa vieja ilustración y darle una vida completamente nueva, recreando la escena en un escenario mucho más profundo. En esta oportunidad, quise cambiar el rumbo de su atención: ahora, la mirada intensa de este chico se dirige hacia el hermoso e infinito mar. Para complementar la atmósfera de paz y libertad, añadí un pequeño velero navegando a lo lejos, perdiéndose entre las olas y el horizonte.
Para el acabado final, decidí experimentar mezclando materiales. Primero, le di intensidad y viveza al fondo con marcadores, logrando tonos muy saturados para el agua y el cielo. Después, utilicé crayones de madera para los degradados más suaves y para darle textura a la piel del personaje.
