When multiplying the loaves wasn't the best option/eng-spn

The recipe called for an ingredient that no longer existed. This happened to us during the height of the crisis, when finding products for Venezuelan tables was nearly impossible. It sounds like a fictional story, but—believe me—a few years ago in Venezuela, you couldn't even find the flour needed to make our arepas in supermarkets. And this situation didn't last just days, weeks, or months; it lasted years—yes, years of anguish, pain, and suffering.

I had my young children and my mother in my care. To survive, we relied solely on my salary—which was only enough to buy half a kilo of cheese—and my mother’s pension, which wasn't enough to buy even a single piece of candy. You might ask, "How did you live through all that time?" Well, friends, we survived thanks to the charity of neighbors and the support of family; we could visit them, and they would offer us a plate of food. Oh, and the government gave us a bag of food every three months that we had to make last. To make matters worse, the food was often inedible—it frequently contained worms that we had to pick out before cooking. We ate corn arepas, plantain peels, re-brewed coffee, and heaps of cassava, while many other ingredients were completely unavailable—you couldn't find them for love nor money.

I remember that so many ingredients disappeared that, for months, using oil to fry anything was impossible. Milk was a luxury for the wealthy. The one ingredient that never ran out was salt—mostly because we hardly used it; what was the point of adding salt when there was no food to cook? Even cassava—the only affordable option left—eventually started to disappear; it was in such high demand that it became scarce, and whenever it did appear, the price was exorbitant. During that time, the mango never failed us; we even started calling the mango "Chicken," because it was what we ate to make up for the lack of other food.

This isn't a fictional story, friends; it is the very real reality that we, the Venezuelan poor, lived through during the years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022—a very sad but true story. There were no ingredients or food available for the people. We recently learned that the person in charge of feeding the population back then became a millionaire through various deals made with other politicians to steal money meant for Venezuelans' food; in other words, corrupt politicians who, as if by magic, made the people's food supplies disappear and turned them into yachts and mansions.

Venezuela over the last 26 years

A sad story that still doesn't have a happy ending; how cruel and inhumane one can become in this life. Best regards, my friend. !LADY !PIMP !PAKX
