Trying Malunggay Juice as a Natural Remedy for Acid Reflux

Happy Saturday Hivers!

Last July, I experienced severe acid reflux, and it was honestly one of the most uncomfortable experiences I’ve ever had. Even walking just a few steps would make me feel extremely dizzy. I would also vomit and experience an intense, sour taste that was so strong it sometimes made my teeth feel sensitive.

It was definitely an experience I never want to go through again because it greatly disrupted my daily responsibilities. I mostly stayed at home because I didn’t feel confident going outside. I was afraid that the dizziness might become too severe and cause me to lose my balance or even fall. It was a difficult time for me, especially because even simple daily activities suddenly became challenging.

Whenever my acid reflux would flare up, I would take omeprazole. I took it for two weeks, but by the third week, I still wasn’t feeling better. The dizziness was still quite severe, and it was already starting to cause me a lot of stress. My anxiety gradually began to flare up as well because I was becoming increasingly worried about what was happening to me. It had almost been a month, yet I was still experiencing frequent dizziness.

During the last week of July, I finally decided to get a check-up because I started thinking that maybe there was something more serious going on than just acid reflux. After the consultation, my doctor prescribed pantoprazole for one month. I made sure to take it consistently as prescribed. After completing the month, my dizziness had improved and become less frequent, although I still couldn’t say that I was completely back to normal.

A friend then suggested that I try malunggay juice, saying that it might help with stomach problems and possibly provide relief if I had a severe ulcer. Since we have plenty of malunggay growing in our garden, I didn’t hesitate to give it a try. I thought, “Why not?”, especially since it was readily available at home.

The first thing I did was use fresh malunggay leaves. I only used a small amount because I already knew how bitter malunggay could be. I put the leaves in a blender, added about half a glass of water, and blended everything together. After blending, I strained the mixture to separate the juice from the leaves. I then added enough honey to make it slightly sweeter, not too sweet, just enough to make it easier to drink. That was it; my malunggay juice was ready.

To be honest, the taste was really unpleasant. It was extremely bitter, and I could even feel a slight burning sensation in my stomach after drinking it. Thankfully, the sensation went away after a few minutes.

I drank the malunggay juice for four consecutive days. A few days after my last drink, I noticed that I was no longer experiencing the dizziness I had been struggling with for weeks. And now, as I’m writing this, I can honestly say that I feel much better. I’ve finally been able to return to my normal daily routines.

Even though the juice didn’t taste good at all, I was willing to try it because I simply wanted to feel better. Maybe my body responded well to the malunggay juice, because eventually, I started feeling like my health was returning to normal. Once I felt better, I stopped drinking it because of how incredibly bitter it was.

Before trying it, I also did some research about malunggay juice. I came across information saying that malunggay may have an alkalizing effect in the body. However, I also understand that my experience doesn’t necessarily mean that the juice was the reason my symptoms improved. It could have been a combination of different factors, including the medication I had taken and the natural improvement of my condition. Still, I’m glad I gave it a try and, most importantly, that I’m finally feeling like myself again.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
