I am usually not a fan of horror movies, but to be honest, this got me and I won’t lie as horror and raw as it was, it would keep you glued to your screen with your heart beating in your chest. The movie started in a time in 2048 in a time when the purge was a rule. The purge was an opportunity to commit any crime and it will be seen as legal but only lasts for 12 hours. The main character was Juan and Adela, a couple who escaped Mexico to Texas. When the purge started in Texas, the couple safely escaped it, but then discovered that it wasn’t over even after the 12 hour timeline. The people who were supposed to end the purge who were also known as the PPF (Purge purification force) decided that they did not want to end it, they wanted the killing to continue as some sort of purification.
In my opinion, the PPF were the real psychopaths, not just because they refused to stop the purge, but because they wanted to target immigrants. It was no longer a purge but a racist attack coated in the camouflage of a purge. Juan alongside his coworker discovered that his place of work, a ranch which belonged to a wealthy family (the Tuckers) had been overtaken by extremists also known as the purgers. In the process of trying to escape, the head of the Tuckers family decided to sacrifice his life so that Juan can save his son and his son’s pregnant wife and help them escape the purge that was about to wipe the entire Tucker family. What caught me though and gave me a whole load of satisfaction was the fear and realization on the face of Caleb’s son Dylan when he saw that his survival was in the hands of the very person he used to look down on.
Realizing they had to work together if they must stay alive made him humble and I can still savor that moment LOL. Adela on the other hand was also facing her fair share of trouble and had to find a way to escape from the purgers only to also be reduced by Juan. In the process of trying to escape, they discovered the bitter truth: the entire country was in chaos and there was absolutely nothing any of them could do about it but try to save their own lives. The only way out seemed like going back to the very place they ran away from Mexico, only to be faced with another issue in the border as just like them a lot of people were trying to leave the country. The epic battle at the end when Juan, Adela and Dycan tried to fight the PPF in a brutal clash and eventually killed the Alpha knowing that it is the only way can safely cross to Mexico.
