Before watching this movie the short clips I was seeing on Facebook were too enticing, and I couldn't just resist giving the movie a shot.
I watched it using the download-and-watch method, and afterward, it's become hard to delete it from my files because the movie is worth a rewatch, especially for the dogged fight scenes.
Hunt the Wicked is a Chinese action movie released in 2024, and the storyline is centered on taking down a drug cartel in the city. And as usual, drug cartels always have a long-range hierarchy of lords under them who are willing to die for their bigger lords.
The movie starts with a very interesting and hard-to-resist fight scene where the drug team went to kidnap a doctor in the hospital, and the police appeared on the scene, resulting in a fierce gun battle. But the drug team came very prepared, with mercenaries, and the police couldn't withstand them.
The hunt continues with intense fights every now and then to take down the drug team and wipe out the dangerous species of drug, "Ice Spider," which causes intense harm to humans when taken.
The fight scenes:
I won't lie, as much as the storyline is good and straightforward, the fight scenes kept me glued to my screen. The graphics in the gun battles are so eye-catching. The flying bullets and the way they were piercing humans and destroying objects appeared too real. But I must say, I feel they're excessively done because there are scenes where bullets were flying from every angle, and the main-role actors were confidently running past the bullets. Gosh! Even if the main actors are not meant to die, they should also make it appear as though they struggled in those scenes and not make it look like they're always smart enough to dodge bullets. This idea always sucks!
The martial arts scenes are breathtaking. As always, I trust the Chinese a lot to deliver breathtaking martial arts scenes.
The actors' rating:
The only actor I'm familiar with is Huang Mingjin, played by Miu Tse... I got to know this guy from the FURIOUS movie. He's the police officer against the drug team, and he did very well, with excellent acting skills.
The villain, Wei Yun, played by Andy On, is an excellent actor too. He embodied the movie so well with his good martial arts skills, especially with the flying dagger fixed to his right hand.
The others played their roles well too, and I must give them kudos.
I would rate it a 9/10.
