Love & Jealousy

One of the ways I confirm within my heart that I love someone is through jealousy, and if I don't feel it, it means there's no meaningful emotional attachment to whatever I'm feeling or wanting to feel for the person.

I remember a certain time ago when a friend and I were coming back from the stadium where we had gone to watch a live football match. We decided to use the back roads, and while heading very close to our street, we saw a female friend whom I wanted to make "friendship" with, talking with a guy on our street in a somehow funny manner.

"Is this not that girl you said you wanted to make friendship with? Look at how free she's with this guy." My friend pointed my attention, and to be very honest, I didn't feel any sharp pierce of little heartbreak or disappointment, as usually happens to me whenever I see someone I like dearly with a guy in a funny manner. I just waved my right hand at them; we greeted each other casually, and we continued our journey.

While some people say Jealousy is never a symptom of love, it is for me, although I don't get extreme about it. When I notice that it's getting extreme and taking up a big portion of me, I usually pull out of the relationship because it's obvious that the situation that's making me jealous is being loved more by my partner, and it's very clear that she wants more of the attention she's seeking or getting outside the relationship.

Sometime last year, I met a lady with whom we became very good friends. We weren't dating; we were just good friends, and she already had a boyfriend. We got along easily, and I became her regular talk mate. Then, suddenly, I found out that she had blocked me after I sent her a couple of messages and they didn't deliver. After about a week, I got to know that it was her boyfriend who had collected her phone and blocked me. Lol.

I didn't blame the guy; he was jealous and needed to protect his girlfriend from me. But for me, I don't go to that length. Once I notice that I'm jealous because the lady is seeking or getting attention somewhere else and she doesn't want to retrace her steps after I tell her, I will just walk away from the relationship.

Thanks for reading.

Really, not all jealousy is evil. Reasonable jealousy is for the protection of what you love. But the destruction jealousy is not acceptable.
