Durch den Neubau der Tiroler Zugspitzbahn 1991 wurde die alte Bergstation nicht mehr gebraucht. Da der Abriss auf dieser Höhe sehr schwierig ist und das gesamte Material sehr kostenintensiv mit dem Helikopter ins Tal gebracht werden müsste, lässt man das Gebäude einfach verfallen.
