Wabi-Sabi Sunflower- Autumn Photography
The summer wasn't as dry as last summer, so we had more moisture in my garden this year. However, autumn has arrived here and dried out the plants as usual. I took some autumn photos, mostly in my garden.
I titled the sunflower photo “Wabi-Sabi Sunflower.” Wabi-sabi (侘び寂び) is a traditional Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, simplicity, and the natural passage of time. It reminds us to appreciate the quiet beauty of things that are imperfect, incomplete, and temporary.
As soon as I saw the big sunflower in my garden, I thought it was a perfect example of wabi-sabi. It's a little melancholy to see the sunflowers bending down and looking tired, but they are still alive and producing seeds, and their colours are still beautiful.
Shiso flowers look so pretty. I love mint flowers and shiso flowers very much. They are small but beautiful. I'm drying these flowers to collect the seeds for next spring.
These chokeberries look so juicy, even though they are dried. Some blue jays come to eat them. I don't eat them myself, but they look very tasty.
The yellow smiley flowers are also dried and almost finished blooming. Whenever they are still yellow, they look like they are smiling.
Oh no... This little sunflower in my backyard was suddenly snipped off by something. I guess some birds accidentally snipped it while trying to get the seeds or nectar.
These spongy mushrooms look so soft. The three buddies look happy together in the bush, in a shady spot near the birch tree.
Yay! These are my favourite Amanita mushrooms. They look so pretty, even though they are poisonous. The pine needles around them look so cozy.
When I saw them today, almost all of them had grown bigger and flatter, just like the biggest one. I wonder if the deer will come and eat them soon.
This is my woodshed. Finally, we finished stacking all the wood, except for a few more pieces that are waiting to be cut into smaller pieces.
The pieces of wood are so irregular in shape this year. Some of them came from our own property. During a hurricane, our neighbour's tree fell onto our trees. We had to cut down the damaged trees and let the wood dry for a few years. Finally, we can use it.
Most of the wood was delivered by a local firewood supplier. Carrying and stacking two cords of wood was so tough! I'm glad we finished before the cold weather arrives.
These photos are a bit out of focus. I peeked at my grapes a few days ago. I deliberately didn't check them yesterday or today.
I tasted them when I checked the other day, and they were good, but they were still a bit sour. I remember the story of “The Fox and the Grapes.”I saw a fox on my property last year, so maybe it will tell its friends about my sour grapes... I guess! I'm thinking about checking them again in October.
I tried growing corn this year as well. I added soil a few times and tried to maintain the nutrients this year. We had small but delicious corn.
We are still waiting for the squash to grow bigger! Its colour has become really nice. The leaves are also drying out. I guess we can pick it soon.
One of my favourite autumn flowers is blooming on my property. The purple colour is shining beautifully. However, I noticed that there are fewer bees again this year. I mentioned this last year as well. It's sad to notice that we have fewer and fewer bees...I wonder if people will have to use AI bees to support our gardens someday soon. Anyway, my garden looks so pretty in autumn.
