Well, as we saw in the previous episode, Kurumi decides to secretly take the money her father has been saving—all so she can make a strategic move and avoid losing all the money at once. It’s a risky move on Kurumi’s part, and she’s been acting very poorly; the problem is that she doesn’t seem to realize just how wrong it was to take that money. She says that if the market drops, she won’t take any risks and will absorb the losses so as not to burn through all her dad’s money, but what we see just a few seconds later is that she herself forgets what she said and takes risks she shouldn’t have taken in the first place.
Kurumi believes the market has stabilized, and therefore the worst is already behind her; she thinks a bull market is coming and that this will allow her to recoup her investment and even make a profit. So, in a move completely blinded by her emotions or greed, she decides to make more purchases. Kurumi isn’t thinking clearly; she’s being consumed by her “goal” and obsession with recovering the money her mother lost. Kurumi’s actions are erratic; they’re based not on analysis but on emotions.
We see that Kurumi-chan tries to justify her decisions and actions; in a move completely disconnected from reality, she seeks to rationalize her behavior, trying to convince herself that what she’s doing is right. Nothing could be further from the truth, as Kurumi is making one mistake after another.
This is to be expected when decisions are made based on emotions and assumptions; what we see is Kurumi’s lowest point, as the market suffers a massive crash and her losses are immense. The market continues to fall, plummeting with every passing second; every drop Kurumi sees on the monitor feels like a stab to her heart. The pain she endures is indescribable; Kurumi breaks down just as the market continues to fall. Both are falling, but Kurumi is the only one suffering.
And what we see next is the most human thing Kurumi does: she prays. She prays to God because she has nothing else she can do; with no other options left, all she can do is pray. Kurumi prays not because she is a believer, but to seek relief from the mistakes she has made. Mistakes that are now dragging down not only her but also her father, who, if he found out, would be watching history repeat itself—first his wife and now his daughter, both trapped in something they cannot control.
Kurumi cries. She believes she has ruined all her father’s hard work—he’s spent his whole life saving that money, and she’s squandered it in a matter of hours. Tired of suffering and realizing there’s nothing she can do, Kurumi gives up and shuts down the computer to stop watching the market crash. Resigned and unsure of what decision to make, Kurumi decides to shut everything down.
And the episode ends with Mochiko, Kurumi’s so-called friend, who—upon seeing Kurumi nearly devastated by the belief that she’s lost all her money—is actually glad to see her, since Mochiko thinks Kurumi is a miser who only cares about money. With friends like that, who needs enemies?
