According to Wikipedia, Colony is a 2026 South Korean action horror film directed and written by Yeon Sang-ho, with Choi Gyu-seok as co-writer. The film explores the harrowing struggle of isolated survivors trapped in a building, quarantined amidst an unknown outbreak, as they fight for survival against the unpredictably evolving infected.
My Take
We haven't had much time to watch movies together like we used to since our first son came into our lives. Because, as you can imagine, raising a kid without any helping hands isn't easy.
Yesterday, my wife asked if I could find some free time so we could watch a movie together. I was busy, but I made some time for her. I wanted to watch something that would be worth waiting for, and that's when I remembered there was a Korean zombie movie that had been released recently.
We've both been fans of Korean zombie movies for a long time, so I decided to give it a try. My wife was so excited that she even rushed through her dinner because she didn't want to miss a single second of the movie. She was already enjoying it that much.
That's when I knew I made the right choice.
Outstanding Performance including spoilers
Just like I mentioned in the title, this is a next-level zombie concept. If you watch the movie, you'll understand exactly why I said that. And if you read this post all the way to the end, including the spoiler parts, you'll definitely understand what I'm talking about.
This part wasn't much different from other zombie movies. The zombies were stopped simply because they couldn't see any humans on the other side, as the survivors had made the room completely dark.
The idea that came from that character worked really well. She planned to confuse the zombies so they couldn't recognize real humans. That's where the concept started getting more interesting and felt truly different from the usual zombie movies.
All the survivors had to make their way to the third floor to get the vaccine, and this was the first time they had to sneak around since the apocalypse began.
This was another part that made the movie feel exceptional. You could see that the zombies weren't attacking the character even though he wasn't a zombie. He had simply been vaccinated, which allowed him to move around freely among them without being noticed.
This was the final moment when the main character became the only survivor from the whole building. She then set out on a mission to save mankind, and in the end, she succeeded.

Jun Ji Hyun played Kwon Se Jeong.
This is one of the main characters of the movie who became the sole survivor from the entire infected zone, along with the vaccine. She was a professor and a smart, independent woman who had been divorced 10 years earlier and had never depended on anyone again.

Shin Hyun Been played Kong Seol Hui.
She was another important character in the movie. She investigated a lab and discovered the information that Kwon later used to help save mankind at the end. She was also the wife of Kwon's ex-husband.

Go Soo played Han Gyu Seong.
He was Kwon's ex-husband and Kong's husband. He was an important character in this whole story, but unfortunately, he didn't get enough screen time because he died quite early while trying to save a nerdy girl who kept messing things up throughout the story.

Ji Chang Wook played Choi Hyeon Seok.
He was one of the standout characters in the movie and worked as a security guard in the building where they all got trapped. He did his best to help the survivors stay alive, but later he went rogue after losing his crippled sister because of the other survivors.

Kim Shin Rock played Choi Hyeon Hui.
This character was Choi's crippled sister, who loved going camping with her brother. She stayed behind in the control room and became the eyes of the survivors, helping them keep track of what was happening around them. Sadly, she met a terrible end when some of the survivors decided to abandon her.

Koo Kyo Hwan played Seo Yeong Cheol
This was the vaccine, or at least that's what he claimed at the beginning of the movie. He was a researcher who developed the virus, and after injecting it into his ex-boss, who had gotten him fired from his job, he injected himself with the only dose of the vaccine.
His father died by suicide when he was a young boy, and he blamed the system for it, along with Kwon. His father had asked Kwon for help, but she didn't help him at the time. Because of that, Seo later sent a fake invitation to Kwon, knowing she would come to his trap. His plan was to make her lose her mind as well.
Conclusion including spoilers
There's a bit of everything in this concept: emotion, horror, action, technology, and the survival instinct.
Seo Yeong Cheol, who developed the virus, made sure that every infected person would follow his commands. He could see what the other infected could see even with his eyes closed. He could hear what they could hear, and he could even control them enough to use computers. Can you believe it? In the end, he took the infected out into the open world with the plan to rule the entire world. But thanks to Kwon, who helped take down Seo, the zombie commander was finally stopped, and mankind was saved.
