A tour to see the neighborhood flowers @lcampesina

# A walk through my neighborhood streets in Aragua: The lovely plants we encounter every day

I am @lcampesina on #hive. My name is Reyna Flores... and speaking of flowers.

Sometimes we rush through the streets, focused on errands and daily tasks, without noticing how beautiful the path actually is. But when you walk slowly and really look around, you realize the neighborhood is full of beautiful plants and flowers that bring life to the houses and sidewalks.

That’s why I decided to go out and take photos of the plants we always come across here in our Venezuelan neighborhood—the ones we see all the time that make the path look so much more cheerful.

I started my walk, and the first thing I found was this little "Flor de muerto" (or yellow cosmos) plant. That plant is incredibly hardy; it sprouted right up against a wall made of old cinder blocks that is already starting to crumble. Without needing much watering or special care, it produces a mass of bright yellow flowers that completely transform that corner. It was a pleasure to see it standing there, withstanding the sun.

A little further on, I came across a huge Bougainvillea—the kind you find at almost everyone's home. It climbs right up the metal pipe fence,

growing quickly to shade the entrance and becoming thick with purple and fuchsia blossoms. These plants are incredibly hardy against drought and heat, and when they bloom, they command everyone's attention because they adorn the house's facade so beautifully.

Later, I passed by a neighbor's house and was struck by this White Hibiscus bush (also known as Flor de Mayo or "May Flower" in some places). It has large green leaves and produces lovely clusters of white flowers with yellow centers. These plants always remind me of the homes of the past—of grandmothers' courtyards, where there was always a cozy little corner filled with plants. like this.

Right next to the sidewalk, I spotted this Purple Verbena plant. It was covered in slender stems bearing tiny red flowers. Butterflies and bees flitting about really love these little plants. Aside from looking pretty, older folks always say it’s great for making herbal teas and home remedies whenever you’re feeling under the weather out in the countryside.

Almost touching the concrete ground, I found a Chismosa plant (or "Good Afternoon" plant, as others call it). That plant is truly hardy and resilient; it doesn't care if the soil is fine or just hard, packed earth—it takes root and starts sprouting pink flowers everywhere. You see them all the time adorning the sides of the road.

When I looked up, I saw something that made me chuckle and piqued my curiosity: a huge Prickly Pear cactus growing way up high on the concrete ledge of a house under construction. There's no telling how the seed got all the way up there, but there it is, clinging to the concrete, putting out its green pads and little red fruits... sky.

At another fence, I came across a pink morning glory (Campanilla rosa). It is a climbing plant that produces large, trumpet-shaped flowers in a striking, light purple hue. If left undisturbed, it will latch onto the fence and cover it completely, making the house look lovely.

To wrap up the walk, I passed by a wall featuring several hibiscus plants (Cayena or San Joaquín). Hibiscus flowers are the perfect adornment for any traditional local home. I found three varieties: first, a pure, pristine white one; further along, another white one but with a star-like red center; and finally, peeking through the fence bars, a stunning yellow hibiscus.

It is a pleasure to go for a walk and see how people care for their plants, or how the plants themselves spring up to brighten our day. We must learn to enjoy these simple things right close to home.

  • What a lovely walk 🌼 @lcampesina. I think that, among other things, you give us a lesson in mindfulness, because you invite us to walk slowly, to really look, to be grateful for the small, big things. Those flowers don’t just decorate—they heal and bring joy. Thank you for reminding us that beauty is right around the corner. A big hug!
