When a woman decides to love, she often loves deeply, selflessly, and wholeheartedly. She gives her time, her energy, her resources, her loyalty, and sometimes even sacrifices parts of herself just to see the person she loves happy. There is something beautiful about loving genuinely and without selfishness.
But in this time and age, women also need to understand that love should not make us lose our sense of reasoning. We can love with our hearts, but we must also think with our heads.
Imagine loving someone to the point of giving him your kidney, borrowing millions of naira for him, sacrificing your comfort, and putting your future at risk, all because you believe in the relationship. Then, after giving so much, you discover that the man never intended to build a future with you. He already has a family he cherishes, and you were simply someone he enjoyed having around. Imagine the pain of realizing that the person you were willing to give everything for never saw you the way you saw him.
This is why women need to be more intentional about love. I am not saying women should stop loving. I am not saying we should become cold, suspicious, or selfish. No, love is one of the most beautiful things we can experience. But love without wisdom can become a dangerous sacrifice.
Before you give someone everything you have, ask questions. Know who you are dealing with. Understand his circumstances. Know his relationship status. Look beyond sweet words and promises. Pay attention to his actions, not just what he tells you when he wants something from you.
And most importantly, never allow love to make you abandon yourself. Your life matters, your health matters, your financial stability matters, your future matters, your dreams matter.
If someone truly loves you, they should not need you to destroy yourself to prove your love. They should not manipulate your emotions to get money, resources, or sacrifices from you. Love should involve care, respect, honesty, responsibility, and mutual sacrifice, not one person continually giving while the other person continually takes.
Women, we need to do better, not by loving less, but by loving wisely.
Let us learn to ask ourselves, “If this relationship ends tomorrow, will I still be okay? Have I protected myself? Have I made decisions that will not leave me completely broken financially, emotionally, or physically?”
There is nothing wrong with being a loving woman. There is nothing wrong with being generous. There is nothing wrong with making sacrifices for someone you love.
But please, do not give someone your whole life before you are sure they value it.Love with your heart, but investigate with your mind. Love deeply, but keep your boundaries. Give, but don't destroy yourself in the process. Trust, but don't ignore the evidence in front of you.
Because sometimes, the person you are willing to lose everything for may not even be willing to lose anything for you.
Women, let us lovebut let us love wisely, protect ourselves, and make sure we are not sacrificing our entire future for someone who sees us as nothing more than a temporary option.
