In life there will be hurdles that will arise and life will surely test you and this is not a maybe, that is a guarantee! Sometimes, something will happen that you didn't expect, that leaves a heavy weight on you and makes you wonder what you're doing and where you're going, I have been there, I believe that everyone has had one, the true question is when will it happen, what you do when it comes?
For me the answer that always comes back to me is Purpose.....
When life gets tough, I mean hard, really hard, I try to remember the reason I am here, So I go back to what I'm building, what am I supposed to be doing with the time I have, where am I going, that is where my courage resides and not because of the problems, but because of things greater than the problems I have encountered...
I believe many people get it wrong by taking a challenge to the extreme and making it the story, It becomes all you can see, all you can think about, and before long you are making decisions from a place of fear and frustration instead of a place of clarity, I understand why this is the case, it is difficult to look beyond the pain when you are feeling it, But I know from experience that the challenge isn't always the whole story, It's only a chapter.
I do not allow difficulties to bring me down, I am not saying that I'm different from others because I am not, but because I have made a decision about who I want to be and crumbling is a choice too, even when it doesn't feel like one, Giving up, staying down, deciding that the difficulty is bigger than you are those are choices, and I choose differently every time.
A little trick I like is to keep in mind where I am going, with a clear sense of purpose, a direction that has meaning for you, then challenges take on a new significance, They don't look like walls anymore, they look like tests, no one gets to pass all the tests for free, Thus I put in the work, I get up, I brush myself off and I keep going on the way I was going even before these challenges were going to try to change my path.
I believe it's also a good idea to be honest with yourself when it's tough, It's not okay when it's not okay, Feel whatever you have to feel, recognise it is challenging, and then decide that you are not going to live there forever.
Things are going to continue to happen regardless of whether you are standing or not but me I would prefer to be on my feet.
Purpose keeps me there. It always has.
