[Movie] Memoire of a Snail(esp-eng)

Hola!

Memoire of a snail

No me gusta dar spoilers.

English

Hello!
This will be my first post on #scrobble.life, and nothing satisfies me more right now than doing it with a film made in one of my favorite forms: stop motion.

Memoir of a Snail

I was really looking forward to seeing this piece. On several Facebook pages I had come across reviews with the occasional spoiler, but not enough to keep me from watching the movie. In my circle of friends, they had also mentioned that it was somewhat eerie and dark, and that this was one of its charms.

I finally got my hands on it, and on a day off I sat down to watch it. Of course I liked it—in fact, I liked it a lot. Just the fact that it’s stop motion draws me in, since this visual style is almost always used to tell very interesting stories with some kind of lesson, or simply because it adds greater dramatic tension to the work.

In this case, themes related to grief, loneliness, and resilience are explored. All of this is embodied in Grace, the main character, who suffers several traumas in her childhood across practically every aspect of her life, and who continues to be haunted by them even as an adult.

She devotes herself to collecting snails, and in the midst of all her emotional turmoil, someone appears who gives her a different perspective on life.

👆 I’ll stop here with the synopsis, just in case you haven’t seen it. I don’t like giving spoilers. Another point that elevates the film is its ability to move from comedy to tragedy and back again, without leaving us with emotional gaps in between.

As I had already mentioned, my hype for the movie was very high, but I have to confess that for me it wasn’t that much. Yes, it’s a very good movie. Yes, I liked it a lot. But I can’t help but recognize that sometimes self-styled film critics tend to overreact to certain movies and series.

Other than that, nothing to reproach about Memoir of a Snail. Its lesson is strong enough that everyone should watch it at least once in their life. Just be prepared for your heart to be squeezed. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Rating: 90/100
