Not Just Shit Photos

The art of getting the right balance

I just counted, I have over 20 draft posts in my folder. Normally I upload photos to the editor first, that helps me to structure what I want to write. Then it takes me ages to write the entire post. I'm not a natural writer, and I don't want to write rubbish for the sake of writing. After a while, I forget about the drafts, and now I end up with over 20.

This particular draft, the images below and the post title is from March 2025. Yes, that's well over a year ago. And if you're interested, my oldest draft dates back to January 2021!!

I quite like these images which is what triggered me to start the post in the first place. It seems a pity not to finish what I started.⬇️⬇️⬇️

I took these photos when I went for a walk the other day. It was actually a very nice sunny day which is a bit of a rarity nowadays, but I think the photo effect looks much better in mono.

It felt fitting to write something beautiful to accompany these photos. Then I realized I can write okish, but not in a thoughtful and eloquent manner.

I didn't want to just throw these images out by themselves. Granted they're ok quality (don't we all think our content is great and worthy of support?), in my opinion it would seem a little low effort to do that.

Getting the right balance for a post is an art in itself.

I think I must have had a theme in mind when I wrote all this, hence the title "The art of getting the right balance" and the last sentence "Getting the right balance for a post is an art in itself." And then I added the colourful images of blooming plants in spring as a contrast to and mono images. I can't remember what my chain of thought was at the time, or perhaps it was something happening in life then. Or maybe I was just rambling.

Do you find this happens to you? You started something not too important a while ago, then you revisit it and wonder why you did it?

And more importantly, if you got this far, I'd be interested to know if a particular image caught your eye. No worries if there's none, if you don't ask you don't know.

Woo, that's a lot of drafts waiting to be published. I've started things before and because of some reason, I left them. Sometimes it takes long to complete while sometime I don't complete at all. I love nature pictures and this ones are great. You got beautiful pictures there,sir.

Beat ya! LOL I have got 56 posts in my drafts folder,(and being added to daily) which I think are complete, yet when I come to publish them I always think "Nah" and give them a tweak.

The time and effort serious bloggers make to present quality posts, it certainly outweighs the rewards, maybe we should just post a "look at my actifit post" add a few snaps half a dozen words and move on. or a "check this out on 3speak" with a video clip. Still I guess this place has to cater for all sorts.

Happy Thursday ranting, I digress!

Some super mono shots there, used in the right context they are far more powerful than poly snaps; they focus the viewer without the distraction of colour.

Two really stand out ones, I shall refrain from mansplaining why these are super!

Let us now just celebrate the continual uploading of quality posts. Hurrrah! for the draft folder

I do the very same thing as you! I currently have 42 posts in Drafts... BUT, granted, 10 or 12 of those were never intended to be published — they were "tests" of various things in HTML, or where I was setting up a "table" for someone and shared the Draft with them so they could see how to do it, etc.

That still leaves me with 30–32 valid posts that could be published if I could get motivated to make the time to work on them. Some have images but no text, some have lots of text but no images. It's cray-cray. 😜

This is so true, and a great observation! And I think you achieved that balance here with the astute ending thoughts and the lovely photos! I also agree that your usage of B&W was an excellent choice on some of these! The reflections of the clouds on the water is amazing! Bravo!

The black and white ones with the shadows are the best! They're fantastic - well composed!

I have drafts with emoji in the title that tells me they're complete ready to post, half written drivel, posts with just images in like you. Every now and then I delete, and go back to nothing, for my own peace of mind. Do you have a cluttered desktop too? Mine is pristine. Feeling self righteous right now lol.

I have a number of drafts in PeakD. Should I delete them, or finish them? I am unsure, so they remain. I find myself drawn to the black-and-white pictures with the row of posts for no particular articulable reason.

The long shot, of the people walking in the distance and the chain fence throwing shadows on the path. The picture is a story in itself.

I don't know if I'm a natural writer, but I do love to write. For me it is a more comfortable communication mode than talking. I feel as though I am talking when I write.

However, your issue of having all those unfinished drafts...it's not an issue. It's wonderful to have ideas, to be captivated by an experience and to want to share that. Not every experience, though, is worthy of an extended effort. Maybe something that struck you, on consideration, might not be interesting to an audience. Or maybe you realize that in the moment the experience was captivating, but that's all it was, a moment.

These shots are fantastic. I know we are supposed to write something about pictures we post, but sometimes silence is quite eloquent. A thing speaks for itself.

I'm glad you got this 'draft' out. It was a pleasure to read/see.

It seems there are some real gems in those 20 drafts.

The photo I like best is the one of the bridge and the shadows, although I don’t think I can make up my mind between that one and the other one of the bridge, which gives me the impression of stitches on the water.

Do you find this happens to you?

They're all eye catching I must say, but I particularly like the third one. The buildings seem to almost touch the clouds. You must have a pretty decent camera or perhaps you're just a pretty decent photographer:)
