A dreamer / My entry Ladies of Hive Community Contest #302 Edition (ENG - ESP)

Greetings dear community.

I have always been a dreamer. As a child I got carried away by all kinds of stories: I believed everything, I lived everything, whether in books or movies.

​One of my first books was Alice in Wonderland and, of course, I wanted to be Alice. Later, attracted by fantastic worlds, I dreamed of becoming some magical being; sometimes a fairy, other times a witch to fly on a broom. When they asked me what I would be when I grew up, I answered either pirate or cosmonaut. Everyone laughed and tried to give me reasons with their feet on the ground.

​Perhaps I have begun to respond to this invitation a little backwards, but my memories are mixed. My dad was a prosthetist. I watched him work and assured him that I would be like him. But he, who knew me better than I knew myself, always repeated that it was better for me to study something else. I would get super angry and accuse him of privileging my brother, while he just smiled at me without taking my tantrum seriously. Today I understand how right he was: that profession would never have been for me.

Over time I studied an Intermediate Technician in Library Science, then I graduated in Sociocultural Studies and today I work as an editor in a cultural magazine. I don't know if this is exactly my "dream job", but I'm still the same dreamer as always. I still invent flying broomsticks and magical concoctions for my children, and love every book that falls into my hands.

​I have a little bit of my mother, but the entire family assures that I inherited my father's walk, gestures and even character. At first the idea did not convince me; My mom was one of those people who lights up any space when she enters, and I wanted to be like her. However, time has shown me everything I owe to him. I deeply appreciate it, because all this that I carry from my father is what makes his memory closer. And, if I'm honest, I miss him immensely.

Siempre he sido una soñadora. De pequeña me dejaba llevar por todo tipo de historias: todo lo creía, todo lo vivía, ya fuera en libros o películas.

​Uno de mis primeros libros fue Alicia en el país de las maravillas y, por supuesto, quería ser Alicia. Después, atraída por mundos fantásticos, soñaba con convertirme en algún ser mágico; a veces en hada, otras en bruja para volar sobre una escoba. Cuando me preguntaban qué sería de grande, respondía por igual que pirata o cosmonauta. Todos reían e intentaban darme razones con los pies sobre la tierra.

​Tal vez he comenzado a responder a esta invitación un poco al revés, pero los recuerdos se me mezclan. Mi papá era protesista. Yo lo miraba trabajar y le aseguraba que sería como él. Pero él, que me conocía mejor de lo que yo me conocía a mí misma, siempre repetía que era mejor que estudiara otra cosa. Yo me ponía superfuriosa y lo acusaba de privilegiar a mi hermano, mientras él solo me sonreía sin tomarse en serio mi rabieta. Hoy comprendo cuánta razón tenía: esa profesión jamás habría sido para mí.

​Con el tiempo estudié un Técnico Medio en Bibliotecología, luego me licencié en Estudios Socioculturales y hoy trabajo como editora en una revista cultural. No sé si este sea exactamente el «trabajo de mis sueños», pero sigo siendo la misma soñadora de siempre. Sigo inventándoles escobas voladoras y brebajes mágicos a mis hijos, y amando cada libro que cae en mis manos.

​Tengo un poco de mi mamá, pero la familia entera asegura que heredé el andar, los gestos y hasta el carácter de mi papá. Al principio la idea no me convencía; mi mamá era de esas personas que iluminan cualquier espacio al entrar, y yo quería ser como ella. Sin embargo, el tiempo me ha demostrado todo lo que le debo a él. Lo agradezco profundamente, porque todo esto que llevo de mi padre es lo que hace más cercano su recuerdo. Y, si soy sincera, lo extraño inmensamente.
