Man's Fascination with the Full Moon

20250910_213038.jpg

What is it that fascinates us with the full moon, especially special ones like a Blood Moon, Blue Moon, Super Moon, and Harvest Moon?

Do you believe that the full moon has a strange effect on us and the world at large?

  • Many people believe that bad things happen around the time of the full moon, and the kids must watch their step because the full moon affects Dad, and he comes home in an unusually bad mood. In fact, all that happens is that Dad had a bad day at the office and blames it on the moon because his grandmother told the family that he's inherited that trait from his Grandfather, who was affected by the full moon! I, on the other hand, believe that both Dad and his Grandfather were merely difficult, grumpy men!
  • All kinds of awful things happen at full moon. Like all the crazy people come out and do all kinds of weird things, even go on a killing spree.
  • Some things are not fallacies; they are for real.

  • Like the tides that affect fishing, spring tides occur during a full moon, when it is the best time for anglers to get their fishing gear ready well in time! I come from a family of fishermen; even Mom was a keen angler, often beating the men at their game. The men would trap their own bait and get all the gear ready. Mom couldn't be bothered with all that fuss and preparation, but one thing she did agree on was the importance of the moon and that the fish get more active and plentiful during spring tides. She would simply walk down to the water and throw her rod in and land a fish in no time!

High tide happens during the full moon, when it's best to fish at night. Neap tides happen during the first and last quarter of the Moon, when the Moon’s orbit around Earth becomes perpendicular to the Sun. So, the tides of the ocean are greatly affected by the phases of the moon!

  • Same with planting crops - many farmers still believe, like generations before them, in planting to the moon. Their crop is stronger and has fewer plant diseases. I proved that a couple of times in my own vegetable garden.

  • There are mixed thoughts on the moon affecting women's menstrual cycles, which are twenty-eight days, and the lunar cycle is twenty-nine and a half days. One thing I do know is that when a group of women works in the same office and spends substantial time together, their menstrual cycles eventually coincide. What causes that phononema, I wonder. The moon again?

What I do share with many other people in our world today is a fascination for seeing the sky lit up by the full moon, and more so, the glow of the blood moon lighting up the sky at night!

Do you believe that the full moon affects people?

It's no wonder that the moon is seen as feminine! I love her so much. And yes, the eAster moon seems to have us all under her spell - she is a special one!

I never heard about moon affecting people before. Only that my ancestors warned us before that during full moon bad spirit comes out especially witches to hunt their prey. They are stronger during this time😬😐

The effect the moon cycles have on our planet (and us) is fascinating. I don't notice the moon phases affecting me but I notice changes in other people. Funny enough I notice it most when I'm driving. It seems as we get closer to the full moon people seem more distracted on the road.
