Random thoughts... about HIVE and the Shit Price of 0.0416 USD for each Hive Token

Hey everyone!

Here's something that's been going through my head lately, and I'd like to hear your opinion on it in the comments.

Since we all obviously want a higher HIVE price rather than a lower one... and since it pisses me off so much that the HIVE price is only going down right now, here are a few thoughts on how we could change that...

  1. Every HIVE frontend commits to setting all posts made through that frontend to 100% Hive Power Up until the end of the year. There should be no other option besides Decline Payout.
  2. Users who post on HIVE while they're in a Hive Power Down get their payouts declined and downvoted.
  3. Users who vote on HIVE should only vote on posts that are either Decline Payout or 100% Hive Power Up.

Well, just a few ideas — an attempt to push the HIVE price back up. Or do you have other, better ideas? Personally, I barely find any content on HIVE anymore that actually interests me and is worth reading through.

So what do you think? Do you think it's cool that the HIVE price keeps going further and further down?

Maybe we should set the HBD APR to 0% as well... until the end of the year?

The whole Proposal System could honestly go too — and people and projects could get off their asses and earn their own money to keep their project running. And with the funds sitting in the DHF, couldn't we simply buy HIVE and burn it directly? If that's possible — why hasn't it happened yet...

Questions upon questions buzzing around in my head, and no answers as to why the HIVE price is so damn crap. Will anything change? No idea... Should anything change? Absolutely! As for me, I'm bored out of my mind with the current HIVE system — nothing new, nothing innovative, no real-world usage app that appeals to the masses... nothing — zero. Standstill! And that is damn well not good.

... whatever ...

Brain off - Fuck off - Week End time.

Congratulations @louis88! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)

You received more than 102000 HP as payout for your posts, comments and curation.
Your next payout target is 104000 HP.
The unit is Hive Power equivalent because post and comment rewards can be split into HP and HBD

You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking If you no longer want to receive notifications, reply to this comment with the word STOP

I think we should set the interest to 0% for sure, but it will be interesting to see what that one big account who invested a couple million dollars a few years ago will do.

  • @mimerr(57)· 15d

So all your ideas to stop the price from falling are to... take away freedom and benefits of contributing and investing into hive? 😅

Sorry to say, all crypto is tied to how useful it is. The biggest boom to hive was the NFT craze and almost entirely thanks to Splinterlands. Since that died, it has been downhill since. Removing the freedom to move your coin, taking away the incentives for keeping it here, and generally downvoting people for not adhering to your new set of rules will just cause more people to flee.

As a social platform it is not doing so well, never has. There is no room for a new social media platform. The ones that do claw their way into the arena are propped up by nonsense and tons of money, then whither away when that runs out.

As a blogging platform, it is fine but no one really blogs anymore.

As a currency it is not going to work any better than any other crypto"currency" that isn't a stablecoin and even stablecoins aren't super useful considering the extra baggage they come with, people would rather just use fiat as a currency. It especially will never happen if people have to wait months to get the currency out...

As a 'store of value' it was too late, Bitcoin and Ethereum will always own that space. This is what 'cryptobros' want all their coins to be, but is really the worst usecase for it IMO.

So what does hive offer that would entice people to use and desire it? That is the question you should be asking. Not 'How do we stop the price from falling?' and coming up with short sighted punishments for people that aren't doing what you want them to do with their hive. 🙅‍♂

The real uniqueness and power of hive IMO is free and fast transactions. It seems to have been designed with the intention of having a vast community sending and receiving hive freely and often. The power down wait time feels contradictory to this actually, but is probably a result of there being no real reason for people to send/receive hive freely and often, and the defaulting of always wanting crypto to be some big store of value like Bitcoin. These two philosophies are fundamentally at odds with one another.

So... the answer to stop the price from falling? Get more people transacting IMO. Add incentives, don't take them away. If people want to cash out, let them, that creates volume at least.

But ultimately, we need useful applications of the system to be created. Splinterlands still exists, I saw another game is in the works that is like pokemon, might help some. But browser games with a small player base are not enough. There needs to be more everyday people uses that just aren't there right now. Which is really the hard part...

  • @new-orden(54)· 15d

Nothing innovative? And what would be an innovative proposal? It would be interesting to know.

  • @simplegame(71)· 16d

the whales have chased away users and builders over the last 3 years and this is the result. Anyone that was still trying to build with a proposal has taken the money and run.

AI has all the development now. I don't see any reason for the price to not drop to 2 cents or less

  • @jza(68)· 16d

I wonder if getting ridof HBD or DHF would be enough to impact on the price. Just because we have a huge debt and is almost unpayable doesn't mean a negative marketing will react to financial responsible news.

  • @niallon11(77)· 16d

It's simple and always has been....

More buyers than sellers will fix the price very fast. Unfortunately we are in a multi year bear market so there is no transfer of funds from other chains. We have large community members selling and little to no new buyers. We have the DHF putting severe sell pressure on a community that cant support the buy wall as most of us still here are long term users that have already bought lots of hive over the years at various prices.

    The solutions would be to:

Create an app that draws in a few thousand users and they need to stock hive for new accounts.

Build a service that is profitable and actually takes hive off the market rather than more front ends or idle/card games.

Grow our community by about 10k users and some percentage of those will buy from the market and effect the price.

Get all of our existing apps to focus on becoming profitable through whatever means possible and stop relying on the DHF to run.

Get a team to work together to leverage our biggest asset in the form of some kind of Hive advertisement network that all frontends can install and buys hive from the market with the revenues. ( The most realistic option ).

Or any other project that can generate external revenue and be used to buy hive form the market and stop the constant sell pressure.

  • @mein-senf-dazu(75)· 16d

Yet another completely wrong approach. For one thing, there are now a lot of frontends, and on top of that, anyone can use ChatGPT to easily create a script to bypass this and post through it.

All this downvoting is exactly why Hive is losing more and more users and becoming less interesting.

But burn posts are accepted—where only those with a lot of Hive Power secure even more for themselves...

Why not think of something constructive instead—something that would support the price, even if only minimally? If we had several measures that could have a positive effect, they might add up to something more over time...

I actually agree with your frustration, but I'm not sure I agree with the proposed solutions.

Forcing people to power up their rewards, punishing users who are powering down, or reducing the HBD APR to zero might reduce selling pressure temporarily, but none of these measures create real demand for HIVE.

For me, the real problem is somewhere else.

Hive doesn't need more people buying HIVE because they are already part of Hive. It needs something that makes people who have never heard of Hive want to use a Hive-powered application.

I keep coming back to one question:

What could we build that hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of people would actually use without caring that Hive is running underneath it?

If we could answer that question, the HIVE price would eventually become a consequence rather than the problem we are trying to solve.

Burning HIVE from the DHF might reduce supply, but if there is no additional demand, I don't think it changes the fundamental situation. It's a bit like reducing the number of parking spaces at an empty shop and expecting the shop to become busier.

For me, Hive's biggest problem isn't that too much HIVE is being sold. It's that there are still far too few reasons for people outside the Hive ecosystem to want HIVE in the first place.

And honestly, that's the part I find much more interesting to think about.

  • @antisocialist(75)· 16d

All btc faucets have minimums to withdraw, why wouldn't hive do that, too?

  • @vikisecrets(80)· 16d

I think the most sell pressure is not coming from author/curation rewards, but from the HBD algo stablecoin, the DHF (proposals) paid in HBD instead of Hive, and interest rates paid out to HBD. Fix inflation, fix hive.

  • @kryptonita(71)· 16d

@louis88, sobre "Well, just a few ideas — an attempt to push the HIVE price b...", ¿qué métricas usás para llegar a esa conclusión?

  • @nattosenpai(74)· 16d

I'm no expert or anything, but I don't really like this idea. However you look at it, it's a bit extreme, and that's saying something, considering how difficult it is to grow on Hive these days as a regular user or creator. Saying that "there is no content worth voting for" on Hive is just your opinion. The issue of content quality will always be highly subjective and everything always depends on each individual. Each person has their own vision, their own tastes, their own opinion about each niche. Also, many of us who are still here on Hive are here because we have a space where we can share and talk about what we like.

Pressuring these people to change their habits even more than they already have and adapted to due to recent events and price drops in Hive is already too much. I like what is still being developed and I would like some of those projects to have more support. If they want burns, or ways to make Hive rise again to a dream price or target on a TV chart, then what needs to be done is to convince the whales to do it.

There are already a few whales doing it, so why aren't all the whales? They're the only ones handling millions of dollars in Hive. Why not focus attention primarily on what is most affecting the price of Hive? Because I doubt that one or two votes on a post from one of the few, scarce, and only active people still on Hive are the problem.

Further reducing HBD's APR wouldn't be a bad idea, because at least by reducing it to the same price or slightly less than Hive's minimum stake (HP), it will encourage investors to buy and accumulate HIVE. I also like that almost all the posts are about 100% HP as rewards. But not as a mandatory option, but as a progress plan that is transmitted to the community as a long-term goal or project. Thus, motivating them to participate will be more advantageous than forcing them to do so without giving them any other options. The idea is not to reduce the variety of options, but to offer benefits and advantages to those who decide to choose the right option.

A badge is nice, but recognition from a long-time user, a major user, or a huge witness to Hive is more than nice. We are a community, we need to communicate, right? Why don't we give a chance to new people, to those who have proudly strived to remain active despite the current difficulties and limitations? We need to open our minds to new ways of thinking and new ideas, new people, new acquaintances, new and future Hivers, etc.

In an ideal decentralized space, everyone has the right to make themselves known. But first, they must be given that opportunity.

Let me clarify here that I have nothing against what you're trying to say. I'm one of those who works hardest to make my account grow. I am currently sacrificing some of the rewards from the content I share on my blog to grow my HP. My goal, which is somewhat exaggerated, is to get 8-10k HP by the end of this year. So I hope to achieve this with all my effort and dedication in the coming weeks and months.

    All the best.

  • @cryptoreforma(72)· 16d

    I agree and add!

I agree: I didn't vote on this post to comply with your Point 3.😃

    1000001376.jpg I add:

Four) Those who vote for users with two- or three-digit KE should be required to make a daily post and lose their author rewards for one month.

Five) Curatorship groups that frequently vote for users with two- and three-digit KE should lose 50% of their delegations for 30 days. On the second offense, they would lose 100% of their delegations for one year.

Six) Users scoring below 50 on the "Width" and "Distribution" metrics of ManteCurated Live (Hive Blockchain Curatorship Terminal), without justification accepted by the majority of the community, would have to lose their posting rewards for one year.

Therefore, with these points marked, there would be no shortage of content for you to curate.

  • @behiver(77)· 16d

This would add some constraints and not sure it solve the big issue on Hive. One idea that I've read these days is to discontinue HBD as more of the drained value from Hive comes from keeping it pegged through huge consumption from HBD Stabilizer. I would say yes to that and there is even a plan to pay the HBD holders without losing anything.

  • @darth-azrael(74)· 16d

I think strong disincentives for powering down hive only makes it so people are less likely to buy or power up hive. It's counterproductive. The only way to make the price of hive rise is to attract people to hive. Scaring people away from hive only makes the price go lower. People have to want to invest, not be coerced into holding.

  • @condeas(68)· 16d

I would like it if Hive could be purchased directly with fiat currency via bank transfer or credit card. An internal marketplace—for instance, using VSC—where people could exchange Hive for fiat or stablecoins directly with one another would be even better. Hive supports multisig, too; so the prerequisites are in place—now someone just needs to build it.

  • @valentin86(69)· 16d

Hive isn’t Ethereum or Solana, it doesn’t have millions of users or their infrastructure. Hive runs on something different: loyalty, community, creators, and people who have been building here for years. If you start punishing those people, you lose them and if you lose them, you lose the entire ecosystem.

Power down, selling, power up — these are all individual rights. You can’t turn a blockchain into an economic dictatorship just because the token price is low. So maybe it’s time to think about different solutions. Hive doesn’t grow by restricting users or punishing normal economic behavior...it grows by creating value, attracting new people, and giving the community reasons to stay active. The focus should be on innovation, utility, and real development, not on limiting what users are allowed to do with their own tokens.

  • @steevc(80)· 16d

I could be in favour of HP payouts only, but people would use the payout bot thing anyway. It's hard to enforce anything like that. There have to be incentives to buy $HIVE and power up. I am happy to keep voting on stuff I enjoy like comics and music. If you can find something you like then give it all the votes you can. We should feel obliged to give everyone our votes. We need to encourage and attract quality content.

What sort of apps do you think we need? We have loads of games now and some people happily play on their phones all day so we need some of that market.

  • @nabbas0786(69)· 16d

This is a really serious problem, the sooner it is resolved the better, otherwise maybe in the next few days a hive will be worth 3 cents. I totally agree with you, and I wouldn't power down my HP at least, I will continue to grow my "Hive and K-E" portfolio by purchasing Hive separately with my fiat currency...
