Friendship is a very serious thing, at least I take it very seriously, so when my friend Yaneth called me and in a distressed voice told me that her sewing machine had jammed and asked if I knew anyone capable of fixing it and coming to my home, I thought of Mr. Chopo.

He looked at and treated the machine with reverence, and I realized I had brought the right person to my friend's house. The machine was from the 1800s, and I had the impression that Mr. Chopo must have been from around that time as well. The machine was originally operated by turning a handle, but a motor was recently fitted to it.

Listening to Yaneth tell Mr. Chopo how her great-grandmother had given her that machine, and how using it was a special connection for her with the person who had helped her have a happy childhood, clarified for me why she attached so much importance to this very old machine

The story had a happy ending. The machine didn't need spare parts (which would be very difficult to find now for such an old model). It simply lacked maintenance. A little 3-in-1 oil and a cleaning cloth, combined with Mr. Chopo's skill and good intentions, worked wonders.
