Indigenous crown made of foam: a tribute to Indigenous Resistance[Eng/Esp]

1_20261016_165601_0000.jpg

Greetings community, this past Monday we commemorated the anniversary of October 12th, the Day of Indigenous Resistance. It was a holiday here, and my daughters didn't have school because of the celebration, so we rested at home.

For those who don't know about this anniversary, I'll tell you a little about it. It's meant to commemorate what happened on that date. There was violence, torture, and massacres against the indigenous people because the Spanish, along with Christopher Columbus, wanted to seize our territory and its riches.

Previously, the holiday was called Columbus Day, but in 2002, the current government changed it to Indigenous Resistance Day. Therefore, I will make an Indigenous crown in honor of all those Indigenous people who defended Venezuelan lands.

This craft is easy to make, let's get started. Join me to see the process...

Materials:

  • Red glitter foam sheet.
  • Green glitter foam sheet.
  • Scissors.
  • Hot glue gun.
  • Hot glue sticks.
  • Ruler.
  • Letter-size white paper.
  • Pen.
  • Elastic thread.

Procedure:

From the red glitter foam, I measured 27 centimeters long by 3.5 centimeters wide to make the strip that will be the base of the indigenous crown. I marked it with the pen and cut it out with the scissors.

To make the feathers, do it as follows: fold the letter-size sheet as shown in the figure and with scissors cut an oval shape from the bottom to the top and remove the template for the feather.

20261012_205120.jpg 20261012_205234.jpg

Keep in mind that the thickness of the feather will depend on how far it is from the fold when cutting. I placed the template on the foam and marked the three feathers I wanted, then cut them out.

20261012_205331.jpg 20261012_205729.jpg 20261012_211229.jpg

The length of the feather is up to you; in this case, it measures 12.5 centimeters.

Next, cut diagonally along the edges of the foam sheet to create the feather shape. Repeat this process for the remaining feathers.

20261012_211303.jpg 20261012_211704.jpg

On a hot iron, place the feather so that the edges are shaped, fold it in half so that it looks like this.

20261012_212320.jpg 20261012_211942.jpg

The three feathers are glued together and holes are made with scissors at both ends of the strip of the indigenous crown to then place the elastic thread.

20261012_215317.jpg 20261012_212609.jpg 20261012_212626.jpg

I made a triangle on the 3-centimeter sheet of paper, which will be the template, I cut it out and transferred it to the frosted green foam sheet. I made six of them and glued them onto the strip as shown in the image.

20261012_213824.jpg 20261012_214328.jpg 20261012_215109.jpg

Take the crown strip and glue the three feathers to the back of the glittery craft foam, in the center. Thread the elastic through the holes in the indigenous crown so you can attach it to your head.

This is how it turned out, and my favorite model is wearing it so you can appreciate it.

Acompáñame a ver proceso...

Materials:

  • Foami escarchado de color rojo.
  • Foami escarchado de color verde
  • Tijera.
  • Pistola de silicón.
  • Barra de silicón.
  • Regla.
  • Hoja blanca tamaño carta.
  • Bolígrafo.
  • Hilo elastico.

Procedure:

It turned out great! And I don’t think it was that hard to make. Personally, I love doing crafts—I used to love arts and crafts when I was a kid! :D Cheers!

Hey! I met you and found your post, through @rozioo's Hive Town, in the creator house.

It really is a great way for us to discover more people we may not have crossed paths with before, or for a little while.

I hope the holiday went well. I do envy you having the skill to make things like this, so much more fun than just buying something from a store. When something is made by hand, with love, it is so much better.

    This would not work for me, if you met me you would know why, my hands don't work like everyone elses;

I would've glued my fingers together, cut myself with the scissors and burnt myself on the iron!!! 😱

To be honest, it is likely that I would have swallowed a feather too!

Your model absolutely loved it I am certain.

Also, the way you laid out the instructions like that, is firstly, informative and easy to follow, but it looks amazing I must find out how to set out the 3 smaller photos together like that, it looks so good.

Hope you and yours are having a wonderful weekend 😎

  • Beautiful and looks easy to do Thanks for sharing, next year I'll be able to do it for my daughter in the squad.
