October pumpkins

Our first visit to Hermanson Pumpkin Patch was over 20 years ago. Even though the children in the family have grown up, it is still a family tradition to return in October to get pumpkins for Halloween jack-o-laterns, seasonal decorations and pumpkin pies!

They have fields full of pick your own pumpkins as well as many that are pre-picked to select from. Here are some photos of several of the varieties they have to choose from.

The large pumpkin on top is a Classic Jack-o'-Lantern & Field Pumpkin.

Blue & Pink Heirloom Pumpkins (Cucurbita maxima): are prized for deeply ribbed, slate-blue skin and sweet flesh.
Red-Orange French Heirloom (Cucurbita maxima):are flattened squat pumpkins often called the "Cinderella pumpkin"

White / Ghost Pumpkins (Cucurbita maxima) These pale white heirloom varieties are known for their smooth porcelain finish and rich orange flesh.

Warty / Knobby Pumpkins (Cucurbita pepo or C. maxima) are specifically bred for their textured, bubble-like skin caused by sugar build-up under the rind.

They also have several animals and activities for kids to enjoy. More pumpkin patch pictures coming soon!

What beautiful customs and traditions! I, too, love these autumn pumpkins. In the world of photography, some of my colleagues create Halloween-themed photos inspired by your traditions, though I haven't tried this style of photography myself yet.

Maintaining a tradition for over twenty years is really impressive. Those blue and pink heirloom varieties sound interesting especially if the flesh is actually sweet for pies.

What a great family tradition 🎃 looks like a nice selection and good place to pick up some fall decor. Do you only use for decor or do you also cook with some of them?

Wow, the pumpkin field looks very beautiful! This year I have grown only 4 small pumpkins. We didn't plant them, they appeared on their own.
