Hi, lovely people! I hope you’re all doing great. Today I wanted to share with you what the group art exhibition “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” was like—a tribute to the artist Britzaida Millán. It took place at the Freddy Villaroel Gallery, at the Omar Carrero Arts Center, on August 14. I’d wanted to share this with you earlier, but I didn’t have the photos; after all this time, I finally have them, and I didn’t want to let this wonderful experience go unmentioned.

To be honest, I had no idea this exhibition was taking place until my cousin told me he’d be participating in it, and I got pretty excited because I usually find out about these things on the island too late, so I accepted right away when he invited me to join him. Since it was the day of the opening, there were people there. Before we could see the artworks, a few remarks were made; the artist being honored was there, and she also said a few words, and without further ado, the gallery was officially opened.

It was my first time visiting this art gallery. I’d been to the Omar Carreño Arts Center before, but I’d never stopped by there, and it’s definitely a beautiful place. They had live music playing at the time, which made the whole experience even more special. To be honest, I took the time to walk through the gallery twice: the first time, right when everyone had just come in, and the second time, when there weren’t as many people anymore, because, even though it’s a large space, I felt I couldn’t fully appreciate each piece since there were so many people waiting to see it.

According to what my cousin told me, the theme of the exhibition was open-ended; each artist decided what subject they wanted to portray in their works. There was a little bit of everything: some pieces were more religious and cultural, referencing the Virgen del Valle; others brought you back to the reality of the country, depicting La Guaira. Each artist truly infused their own essence into every piece, so you really had to take a moment to truly appreciate them.

This art exhibition is open to the public. Since it’s been a little over a month since its opening, I’m not sure if it’s still there, but if you get the chance, you should stop by. In any case, there are plenty of places in La Asunción filled with art to enjoy.

I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading this far.
