I had to go shopping in the San Miguel del Padrón Municipality, in a place called La Cuevita. It has a very bad reputation, but it's the place where low-income people and almost everyone who has a business in Havana go to do their shopping. Many people from other provinces also go there, supposedly because the prices are cheaper, but right now that's not the case. Every week the prices are higher and on par with the prices of those who stock up from this market.

Tuve que ir a hacer compras en el Municipio San Miguel del Padrón, en un lugar llamado La Cuevita, este tiene muy mala fama pero es al lugar que acuden a hacer sus compras las personas de bajos recursos y casi todos los que tienen un negocio en La Habana. También van muchas personas de otras provincias, supuestamente porque los precios son más baratos pero en estos momentos no es así, cada semana los precios están más elevados e igualados a los precios de quienes se abastecen de este mercado.

The foot traffic in this place is immense. Thousands of people gather here, and you have to be on your toes, that is, alert, because they can scam you both with money and with merchandise.

La afluencia en este lugar es inmensa, aquí se reúnen miles de personas y hay que andar a la viva, es decir alertas, porque te pueden estafar tanto con el dinero como con la mercancía.

At first, the deals in price and quality in this place were very good, but now with the inflation we're living through, no one can keep up with it. On top of that. Those of us who buy here have no other choice, because in the famous MSMEs the prices are also on par with these and are sometimes higher — things that should be the opposite.

Al principio las ofertas en precio y calidad en este lugar eran muy buenas pero ahora con la inflación que vivimos esto no hay quién lo sostenga. A los que compramos aquí no nos queda más remedio porque en las famosas MIPYME los precios también están equiparados a estos y a veces son más altos, cosas que debía ser lo contrario.

I went and I was very careful about taking out my phone. I arrange my money well so that when I go to pay I don't get tangled up. I stay well away from people when there are crowds. I place my backpacks in front of me or down low, and I try to buy in places where the vendor has a little table with their products displayed with their prices, where you can see quite a few boxes of the merchandise, and I also check what I buy.

Yo fui y me cuidé mucho de sacar el teléfono, el dinero lo acomodo bien para cuando voy a pagar no enredarme, me separo mucho de las personas cuando hay tumultos , las mochilas las coloco delante o abajo y trato de comprar en lugares donde él vendedor tenga una mesita con sus productos exhibidos con sus precios, donde se vean bastantes cajas de las mercancías y también reviso lo que compro.
