When I went through this week prompt here, I didn't even know if I should participate or leave it because to be honest, I have never played any game on Hive.
I know this may sound a little funny, especially because I have been on Hive for like three months plus now and I often go through different communities to see what people are posting. Whenever I come across gaming-related posts, I usually stop to read them, even though I don't actually play the games myself.
One game I keep seeing is Splinterlands.
At first, I didn't really understand what was going on. I would see people talking about their battles, cards, rewards and different achievements. Sometimes, I would see screenshots of their games and wonder how they even knew what they were doing. I would just look at the posts and move on.
But after seeing Splinterlands mentioned and posted about repeatedly, I started becoming curious about it.
What I find interesting is that people don't seem to play it only because of the game itself. There is also a community around it. People share their experiences, talk about their strategies, show their cards and celebrate their achievements. Even as someone who has never played, I can see that there is more to it than simply opening a game and playing a few rounds.
This is actually one of the things I like about Hive generally. You can come across something you know nothing about and still become interested just by seeing other people's experiences.
For me, Splinterlands has been one of those things.
I have never had a favourite card, I have never celebrated a victory in a Splinterlands battle, and I cannot even tell you which cards are the best to use. So I wouldn't want to come here and pretend that I am an experienced player.
I am simply someone who has been watching from the sidelines.
Sometimes, I think about trying the game just to understand what everyone is talking about. The biggest thing holding me back is that, as a complete beginner, everything looks a little confusing. When you see experienced players talking about cards and strategies, it can make you wonder where exactly a new person should start.
But I also think that is how most things begin.
Nobody starts knowing everything.
Perhaps if I eventually decide to play, my first experience will probably be very different from what I see experienced players posting. I may lose battles, make silly mistakes and wonder why I chose certain cards. But that could also be part of the fun.
And who knows? Maybe one day I will be the person making a post about my first Splinterlands battle instead of simply reading other people's posts.
For now, I am still the person watching from the side.
The funny thing is that even though I have never played a Hive game, seeing gaming communities on Hive has shown me another side of the platform. Hive is not just about writing and reading posts. There are people playing games, competing, collecting things, sharing their experiences and building friendships around their interests.
So, what keeps me coming back to Hive?
For me, it is curiosity.
There are always new things to discover.
Today, I may be reading someone's Splinterlands post without understanding half of what they are saying. Tomorrow, I might finally decide to give the game a try.
And if that happens, I already know where I will start.
I will probably go back to all those Splinterlands posts I have been scrolling past and start paying closer attention.
The game has been sitting right in front of me all this time, and I have just been too busy watching to press play.
