I Care..But Myself First: Prompt #49

have been thinking about this question for some minutes now, and honestly I wonder how a person can care so much about others and still end up hurting themselves in the process.

I know that when I care about someone, I try to understand them. Even when they do something that hurts me, I may find myself making excuses for them. I will tell myself that maybe they are going through something or that they didn't mean to hurt me. Instead of talking about how I feel, I may just keep quiet and move on.

But how many times can I keep doing it? There are times when I want to speak up about something, but I will just leave it because I don't want the person to feel bad. Sometimes, I even feel guilty for being angry when I know that I have every reason to be. I start thinking about the other person's feelings and forget that I have feeling too.

Since I started teaching, I have come to understand that teaching children is not just about standing in front of them and teaching. Sometimes, it goes beyond that. I have pupils who understand what I teach quickly, and I have others who need me to explain the same thing more than once. Sometimes, I may be tired, but when I see that a child is still struggling to understand, I try again. I don't want any of them to feel left out.

There are times when I will correct a child, and instead of getting the expected response, the child would starts crying. At that moment, I have to calm down and find a way to make the child understand why I corrected them. I know they are still young, and not every child will understand things the same way.

Honestly, caring for children can be tiring but it has also thought me a lot about caring. There are days when I finish teaching and feel like I have done so much, yet there is still more to do. I think about the pupils who are not doing well and what else I can do to help them.

I don't think caring is a bad thing. In fact, I like being able to understand people, but I also have to realize that sometimes, trying too hard to understand them can make me ignore what I am going through.

But I am beginning to understand that I also have my limits. Being a caring teacher does not mean I will never get tired or feel frustrated. There are days when I need rest, too. And I don't think that makes me a bad teacher.

I remember that these children are still growing, and they need time. But I also need to understand that I cannot solve every problem in one day.

Sometimes even to my fellow adults, the part I always find difficult to do, is knowing when to stop. When I care about someone, I may not want to give up on them easily. I will keep hoping that things will get better. Even when I am tired, I may still try because I don't want to feel like

The truth is that I still want to be a caring person, but I also want to learn how to care without forgetting myself in the process. I should not keep abandoning myself just to make them stay.
