Netflix's new show I Will Find You told the story of David Burroughs(Sam Worthington), a man who was sent to prison for killing his own son, even though he didn't do it. For five long years, David sat behind bars, believing everyone hated him, believing his son was gone forever, and slowly giving up hope that anyone would ever believe he was innocent. It was the kind of pain that would break most people, and the show didn't shy away from showing just how heavy that weight was on him.
Then everything changed. David's ex-sister-in-law, Rachel Mills(Britt Lower), found proof that his son might actually still be alive. This discovery didn't just shake up David's world. It shook up Rachel's too. She used to be a respected journalist, but her career had fallen apart, and this story felt like her one shot at getting her old life back. So she made a bold decision, she helped David escape from prison so the two of them could search for the truth together, no matter the risk.
What makes this show stand out isn't just the drama of a man running from the law, it's the emotional core underneath it. This was a story about how far a parent will go for their child, and about a woman who put her whole life on the line to help someone she barely trusted anymore. The show also made a smart storytelling choice, instead of following David and Rachel's journeys separately, the way the original book did, it kept the two of them together from the very first episode.
That decision made the pacing tighter and kept the tension between them constant, so viewers never had a slow moment to look away.
Along the way, several other characters added more layers to the story. Hayden(Milo Ventimiglia), was Rachel's ex-boyfriend, a man from a wealthy Boston family who got pulled into the danger despite trying to stay out of it. On the other side of the case were two FBI agents, Sarah Greer (Logan Browning) and Max Williams (Chi McBride), a sharp, experienced duo assigned to track David down before he could uncover the truth.
Meanwhile, Cheryl Dreason, (Erin Richards), was David's ex-wife, a woman also grieving the loss of their son, but hiding secrets of her own that slowly came to the surface as the season went on.
This show was full of twists, in true Harlan Coben fashion. Just when you thought you finally understood what was going on, a new piece of information would completely flip the story upside down. It wasn't the kind of series you could predict, every episode ended with a new question, and every answer only opened up more mystery.
If you enjoy shows built around family secrets, hidden pasts, and people who will do anything for someone they love, I Will Find You delivered all of that and more. Sam Worthington gave one of the most emotional performances of his career, showing a softer, more vulnerable side that felt worlds away from his usual big-screen action roles and that alone made the show worth watching.
