Harvesting Corn and Baobab Leaves

Hello Hive

IMG_6953.jpeg

This is what we were up to at the farm yesterday. We went harvesting and made it a combination of both the corn we need for turning food and some vegetables for soup.

We have just currently entered a season of daily rainfall and it will be very wrong go leave any harvest on hold.

Do you know what happens to corn if they do not get harvested timely, they begin to germinate inside their shelf. Any corn that is partly dried in this season will not cease to germinate once the rains begin to beat on it daily like it is happening these days.

Aside germinating, some corn can get rotten on their stalks and become no longer useful for any purpose. This is the reason we have decided to intentionally add this harvest to our work at this time. In the early hours of the day, we go working in the rice field and once we are done we try to harvest some corn we can carry on our heqda home.

Baobab leaves were equally harvested in large quantities as well.

It is the best time for harvest off these leaves as the rains are consistent the tree tends to produce more leaves which can be harvested processed and stored. The leaves are not usually eaten wet, hence they are sundried and then blended into smooth powder.

The more leaves we harveat the more the tree produces until there will not be much to be harvested in the dry seasons. It's morning and we are already up and preparing for the days work but it is still drizzling outside even though it rained all night. Today we would transplanting more rice again although plans are on the way for those to purchase the lettuce. Once they are ready we would be entering into it's harvest as well.

I hope that we will have a fruitful and less stressful day ahead .
