Hackers Target Blood Bank Refrigerators

If hackers can get to grocery store refrigerators to destroy perishable food, they can get to more important things. …Like blood banks, drug storage at pharmacies and in hospitals, and regional commercial food distribution facilities.

A string of cyberattacks compromising supermarket refrigerators, causing millions in food to perish, began in France and expand across Europe. Now, new attacks are targeting blood banks which put the health of those in need of severe medical attention at risk!

We have grown from the easy world of data theft to include asset destruction and system tampering. This is where serious chain-reaction types of damage can happen.

It is important to consider the risks when connecting critical equipment to the internet. Just because we can connect something and make it ‘smart’, does not mean we should! We must understand the risks and make informed decisions.

How important is cybersecurity to you (and the Critical Infrastructure you rely upon)?

We may see more attacks on such infrastructure. It may seem minor, but it has an impact and hostile powers will do what they can. I expect the attackers are looking at all the home automation gear out there. They could turn lights on or off and change heating settings to disrupt people.

I was just reading about how some Linux systems have broken SSH that may be in various devices and may not get updates.
