Once Upon a Time, There Was a Country Without Children. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

I remember that when I was in school—I must have been about 7 or 8 years old—the teachers used to say that the Cuba of the future would have a very aging population. More than 30 years later, that prediction has come true.

Yo recuerdo que en mis años de escuela, tendría unos 7 u 8 años, los maestros decían que la Cuba del futuro sería de una población muy envejecida. Más de 30 años después se hizo realidad el vaticinio.

It’s hard to find children on the streets like there were 20 years ago; scenes of them playing are very rare, and I’m not exaggerating—it’s the plain and sad reality.

Havana and the rest of the country, I imagine, are in the same situation—so where did all the children go?

Es difícil encontrar niños en las calles como hace 20 años; esas escenas de ellos jugando son bien escasas, y no exagero, es la pura y triste realidad.

It was and remains a country with a low birth rate, but migration has also played a role in this issue.

De por sí era y es un país con bajo índice de natalidad, pero además la migración ha jugado su papel en este asunto.

The fact is that not even at this ship modeling event I attended did I see as many children as I had expected.
