The Button to My Inner Calm: My Grandmother's Memories.
Hello, friends of Holos & Lotus. I hope you are starting a week full of positive vibes and many beautiful experiences. I read our friend @damarysvibra's post initiative, and it made me think of those moments when I need to reconnect with my peace and well-being. Without a doubt, I can't help thinking about certain moments from my childhood, but specifically, the times I spent with my maternal grandmother, who was a very special being in my life and in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Anxiety is something I've had to deal with for a large part of my life. I am learning to understand it—not by rejecting it, but by trying to integrate it in a less negative way. When those moments arrive where everything seems to overwhelm me and I find nothing to hold onto, the memory of my grandmother comes to me; her presence generated a lot of tranquility. Whenever I had her close, I felt more confident and at peace; she had something special that made you feel that way.
In moments when it's hard for me to stay calm, I remember her and my mind fills only with good times together. I remember how calm her voice was, how soft her hugs felt, and the way she showed, without saying much, a peace I've only felt with a few people—she being one of them. She was a very calm person and full of spirituality; that made it so that when you sat down with her to talk or simply spend some time, it felt like being in a beautiful place, filled with gorgeous flowers and an incredible sunset.
I clearly remember some moments we shared, especially in the afternoons after spending the day at school and returning home. She would be there, reading in her room or watching television. Sometimes she would lie down to rest or take a nap; I would go to her bedroom, lie down with her, and ask her to brush my hair. She did it with such gentleness that that moment still generates a feeling of infinite peace for me. I remember it clearly, and it's one of the few things I still don't forget from my childhood and adolescence.
Whenever something overwhelms me, when I feel a lot of pressure or restlessness, I remember her voice and her hands in my hair: the way she combed it with so much care and affection, and the way we connected without having to say much to each other. That brings me back to my center of peace, and I hope to never forget those memories I have of her. I truly feel grateful for the time we spent together and for the times I showed her my love, even though she wasn't very given to expressing affection. However, with just her presence, she transmitted a sense of love and harmony that I still keep with me.
So, whenever it seems like everything is dark, that things aren't going well, or that I want to give up on everything, I remember her hands in my hair, her voice, and her very special hugs. All of her was proof that love can make even the impossible possible and that there is no insurmountable gap; even though she is no longer physically with us, her tenderness still lingers, along with that very special way of loving us and returning to us when we need her most—because I don't believe that remembering those moments is a coincidence.
