Me gustaría invitar a @erigm y @syllem 🫶🏽.
Hello, friends at Ladies Of Hive, I hope you’re all doing very well. I’ve been thinking recently about how much our life experiences shape who we are, for better or for worse. That’s why I think this week’s questions are ones we should answer honestly. I’d like to tag @erigm and @syllem 🫶🏽.

Who in your family are you most like, and why?

Well, physically I certainly look a lot like my dad. I’ve always felt that we have a close relationship and a lot in common, even though I only lived with him for five years. For some reason, we’re both the middle children; we’re quite dreamy and we like to think we can achieve the things we want, even if they seem almost impossible. That tendency to be a bit more positive in life comes from my dad; I always saw him carrying on, even in difficult times.
It’s not that I don’t take after my mum – my mum is calmer, wiser and much more mature, and more empathetic. I feel that I’ve got my empathy from her, that sense of being there for others, knowing how to listen to what others have to say and knowing how to respect every human being, regardless of whether I’m close to them or not. But I think my dad passed on all his genes to me. We don’t have many photos together, especially these days; I haven’t seen him for a long time, but there’s always something every day that reminds me of him. It’s strange, but I think that despite his mistakes, I feel I understand that he’s a human being too.
At one point in my life, I really didn’t like the fact that I was like him; I felt it was like betraying everything my mum had done for me. But I realised that, even though there are differences between us, I will always cherish every moment that was worthwhile and every word he spoke, which was full of wisdom and perhaps a touch of sadness at not being able to be closer. Now I see myself as my dad, because I know we’ve both been through similar things, and in a way I’m grateful that he chose me as his daughter – or that I chose him as my dad. Ultimately, it’s been a great learning experience, full of awkward moments, moments of laughter and moments of joy too.

What was your dream job as a kid -versus- what job do you have today?

For some reason, I always imagined myself working as a writer or being an artist; I really enjoyed drawing in my spare time, but I liked writing even more. I had hundreds of notebooks – some have been lost over time, whilst others I still have – and many of them capture different moments in my life when words could only find their way out in the form of letters. I felt lighter after writing, but in my childish imagination it seemed brilliant to be a writer and have my books published.
Perhaps that’s why I connect so well with Hive; it was a way of bringing together all those words and stories I had in my head, which I used to write down on paper, with chalk, with felt-tip pens and with great enthusiasm. I’d love to have the chance to write a book; I haven’t yet come up with an idea for what it might be about. But I’d love to be able to write at least one – I think it would be a dream come true for the little girl I once was and who still lives on inside me.
At the moment I’m focusing on my studies, but I’ve taken a few courses that have enabled me to work for a number of people and in areas that were completely new to me. It was a great experience because it took me out of my comfort zone and gave me lots of new experiences. It’s difficult to hold down a job whilst studying; at the moment my degree course doesn’t allow me to do that, but once I graduate I’d like to devote myself entirely to my career – it would truly be amazing and exactly what I’ve always wanted for myself.
