Looking back at our August 2022 expedition to Murree, it genuinely feels as though seventy-two continuous hours dissolved within three momentary intervals.
How Was the Journey from Lahore to Murree?
One genuinely comprehends the swift passage of temporal moments when reflecting upon fond recollections of the past. It was Saturday, August 06, 2022, when Arsalan, Waqas, and I stepped away from our occupational responsibilities to set out for Murree. We commenced our highway drive from Lahore around 11:00 AM, deliberately opting for the M-2 Motorway to ensure a swift, comfortable, and uninterrupted route.
While cruising past the picturesque Khewra Salt Range and the surrounding hills of Kallar Kahar on the motorway, vivid memories of my 2019 college excursion instantly resurfaced. Following an extended luncheon and intermediate intermission at Kallar Kahar, we subsequently resumed our northbound trajectory. As soon as we transitioned onto the Murree Expressway from Islamabad, the atmospheric temperature shifted noticeably, with towering chir pine trees lining both flanks of the ascending highway. Finally, at approximately 9:00 PM, we safely entered the brisk highland atmosphere of Murree.
What Makes Murree Such a Peaceful Mountain Escape?
Murree is an iconic colonial-era hill station in northern Punjab, positioned at an altitude of approximately 7,500 feet above sea level. Malika Kohsar is a traditional Urdu title meaning "Queen of the Hills" that locals use to describe this mountainous region. Originally established by British administrators in 1851 as a tranquil sanatorium, its invigorating pine air promptly dispelled the collective exhaustion of our long transit. Throughout our duration of three consecutive nights and two leisurely days, we wandered unhurriedly across vibrant mountain pathways, engaged in contemplative conversations, and thoroughly enjoyed local street delicacies.
Admittedly, photography has never been a serious personal priority of mine, yet looking back at these snapshots today, I certainly wish I had captured far more.
Photographic documentation serves not merely as decorative portraits, but fundamentally functions as permanent preservation of meaningful personal milestones. Is that not an undeniable psychological reality?
Why Did We Visit Faisal Mosque on Our Return?
On our third morning, we packed our luggage for the return journey, acknowledging that our highland retreat had reached its natural conclusion. While we were immersed in the hills, each hour seemed remarkably tranquil and extended, yet reflecting upon it today, those seventy-two hours disappeared almost as swiftly as a momentary heartbeat.
Faisal Mosque is the national mosque of Pakistan, situated majestically against the picturesque backdrop of the Margalla Hills in Islamabad. Although conventional travelers typically visit this architectural establishment on their upward journey toward Murree, we chose instead to schedule our exploration during the homeward drive toward Lahore. Consequently, yielded by Arsalan’s persistent encouragement, I posed for several quirky, spontaneous photographs across the marble courtyard visual souvenirs that continue to evoke genuine laughter today. Shortly following our prayer visit, we successfully accessed the motorway infrastructure and concluded our return journey back home to Lahore.

لاہور سے ملکہ کوہسار کا سفر
وقت کتنی تیزی سے گزر جاتا ہے انسان کو اندازہ تب ہوتا ہے جب وہ گزرے وقت کی یادوں میں جھانکتا ہے۔ ہفتہ 06 اگست 2022 کی بات ہے جب میں، ارسلان اور وقاص مصروفیات چھوڑ کر مری کی طرف نکلے۔ ہم نے صبح گیارہ بجے لاہور سے اپنے سفر کا آغاز کیا اپنی آسانی اور جلد پہنچنے کے لیے موٹر وے سے سفر کرنے کا ارادہ کیا۔ ایم ٹو موٹروے پر کھیوڑہ سالٹ مائن اور کلر کہار کے پاس سے گزرتے ہوئے مجھے اپنی 2019 میں کالج کے دوستوں کے ساتھ والی ٹرپ یاد آگئی۔ راستے میں کلر کہار تھوڑی دیر آرام کرنے اور کھانا کھانے کے بعد ہم آگے کے لیے روانہ ہوئے۔ اسلام آباد سے مری ایکسپریس وے پر چڑھتے ہی موسم بدلنا شروع ہوگیا اور دونوں اطراف چیڑ کے درخت نظر آنے لگے۔ بالآخر رات تقریباً نو بجے ہم مری کی حدود میں پہنچ گئے۔
وادی اور پرسکون لمحات
مری شمالی پنجاب کا ایک خوبصورت پہاڑی مقام ہے جو سطح سمندر سے تقریباً ساڑھے سات ہزار فٹ بلندی پر واقع ہے۔ ملکہ کوہسار اردو کا ایک روایتی لقب ہے جس کا مطلب ہے "پہاڑوں کی ملکہ"۔ مری کو انگریزوں نے 1851 میں بطور سینیٹوریم آباد کیا اور آج بھی اس کی خوبصورتی ویسے ہی قائم ہے۔ اس ٹھنڈی ہوا نے ہماری تھکن مٹا دی۔ ہم نے وہاں تین راتیں اور دو دن گزارے، خوب گپ شپ لگائی، مزے کیے اور روڈ سائیڈ کھانے کھائے۔ مجھے تصاویر کھنچوانے کا خاص شوق نہیں تھا، لیکن اب سوچتا ہوں کہ کاش اس وقت کچھ اور تصاویر لے لی ہوتیں۔ آخرکار، تصویریں محض عکس نہیں ہوتیں بلکہ پرانے خوبصورت لمحوں کو ہمیشہ کے لیے محفوظ رکھنے کا سب سے بہترین ذریعہ ہوتی ہیں۔ ایسا ہی ہے ناں؟
واپسی اور فیصل مسجد، اسلام آباد
تیسری صبح ہم واپسی کے لیے نکلے، کیونکہ پہاڑوں کی سیر کا سفر اب اپنے اختتام کو پہنچ چکا تھا۔ جب ہم وہاں تھے تو لگتا تھا وقت کتنا ٹھہرا ہوا ہے اور یہ دن کتنا لمبا سفر طے کر رہے ہیں۔ مگر آج بیٹھ کر سوچتا ہوں تو محسوس ہوتا ہے وہ تین دن دراصل تین منٹ تھے جو پلک جھپکتے ہی گزر گئے۔
فیصل مسجد پاکستان کی قومی مسجد ہے جو اسلام آباد میں مارگلہ کی پہاڑیوں کے دامن میں واقع ہے۔ اکثر لوگ مری جاتے ہوئے فیصل مسجد، اسلام آباد جاتے ہیں مگر ہم نے مری سے لاہور واپس آتے ہوئے اسلام آباد کا رخ کیا۔ جب ہم نے فیصل مسجد کا وزٹ کیا تو ارسلان کی ضد کی وجہ سے میں نے کچھ عجیب و غریب پوز والی تصاویر بنوائیں، جنہیں دیکھ کر آج بھی چہرے پر مسکراہٹ پھیل جاتی ہے۔ اس کے بعد ہم اپنے گھر لاہور کے لیے روانہ ہوگئے۔
