THE EXPEDITION In 1981, 22-year-old Yossi Ghinsberg was backpacking through South America. In La Paz, Bolivia, he met Karl Ruprechter, an enigmatic Austrian geologist who promised to guide him and his new friends—American photographer Kevin Gale and Swiss teacher Marcus Stamm—into the heart of the unexplored Amazon to search for gold and make contact with a lost tribe known as the Toromona.
BETRAYAL AND A FRIENDSHIP TORN APART. The expedition soon turned into a logistical and personal nightmare.
