Hello, my friends at Hive and this movie-loving community. Today I’m here to talk about a miniseries I watched recently called Bon appétit, Your Majesty. In my opinion, it was good because it tells a captivating story. It’s a South Korean TV series that shows us that even in another era, we can savor new dishes and win the love of a prince. This miniseries has 12 episodes and is full of suspense, love, betrayal, and a journey through time that helps us understand the customs and flavors of another era. I hope you enjoy it.

En esta oportunidad vengo a hablar sobre una miniserie que vi hace poco titulada: Bon appétit, majestad Y que, a mi parecer, me pareció buena, ya que muestra una historia cautivadora. Es una serie de televisión surcoreana que nos da a demostrar que aun en otra era podemos degustar platillos nuevos y tener el amor de un príncipe. Esta miniserie dura 12 capítulos y está llena de suspenso, amor, traición y un viaje en el tiempo que nos hace entender las costumbres y sabores de otra era. Espero les guste.

This series takes place in an ordinary, everyday present, but everything takes an unexpected turn when Yeon Ji-young’s father asks her to bring him a cookbook. It’s just then that she goes into the airplane bathroom and decides to look at the book, since she’d gotten it dirty. At that moment, the plane hits turbulence, and she passes through the book, finding herself in an era she’s never known—that is, she unwittingly travels back to the Joseon Dynasty. Yeon Ji-young is a young woman who has won many cooking competitions and is a star in the Michelin world; that’s why, when she’s transported, she loses the book and some of her belongings, managing to escape from some soldiers who try to kill her, but then she unwittingly encounters the king of Joseon himself. After that, this comedy-drama filled with romance and suspense blossoms into a true love that transcends borders and eras.

This series is pretty short, since I always try to watch miniseries, and they usually run between 12 and 16 episodes. It’s relatively short, since I like stories that don’t drag on for too long—I’ve often had to wait for the second season, and that makes me impatient. As for the series itself, I found it to be a very exciting story. Through Yeon Ji-young’s journey back to the Joseon era, she manages to captivate the palace inhabitants and even the king himself. But to achieve all this, she had to overcome many obstacles that made her stay uncomfortable at first—yet then everything changes, and it turns into a lovely story. That’s why I liked the characters—they really got into their roles and beautifully brought this lovely story to life, and the characters feel well-connected to one another.

Through the palates of the palace inhabitants and the king himself, Yeon Ji-young becomes the king’s chef; with her charms and the delicious food of the present day, she transports him back to that era, captivating everyone and creating dishes that, while commonplace to us, were not so at that time, and that’s what gives this series its comedic touch—how such simple things manage to captivate everyone, to the point of sparking a competition. Although not everything was rosy, since her archenemy manages to cause Yeon Ji-young a great deal of harm, the prince always comes to her rescue, making everything more bearable; it’s a story that blends flavors and traditions through love.

Esta serie se desarrolla en un presente común y corriente, pero todo da un giro inesperado cuando el padre de Yeon Ji-young le pide traer un libro de recetas de comida para él. Es justo el momento en que ella entra al baño del avión y decide ver ese libro, ya que lo ensució. En ese momento, el avión entra en turbulencia y ella pasa a través del libro, quedando en una época que ella no conoció, es decir, que regresa dinastía Joseon sin saber. Yeon Ji-young es una chica que ha ganado muchos concursos de comida y es una estrella del mundo Michelin; es por eso que, cuando es transportada, pierde el libro y parte de sus pertenencias, logrando escapar de algunos soldados que la tratan de asesinar, pero luego se encuentra con el mismo rey de Joseon sin saber. Después de eso, todo este drama de comedia, amor y suspenso se vuelve un amor verdadero que traspasa fronteras y era.

Esta serie es bastante corta, ya que siempre trato de ver miniseries, y estas suelen durar entre 12 y 16 capítulos. Es relativamente corto, puesto que me gusta que las historias no se lleven un tiempo exagerado, porque me ha pasado mucho que tengo que esperar la segunda temporada y eso me pone impaciente. En cuanto a la serie, me pareció un relato muy emocionante, ya que a través de ese pase que tuvo Yeon Ji-young a la era Joseon logra cautivar a los habitantes del palacio y al mismo rey, pero para todo esto tuvo que pasar muchos obstáculos que hicieron de su estadía un momento incómodo, pero luego todo cambia y es una historia linda. Es por eso que los personajes me han gustado, ya que se han metido en su papel y han interpretado de una manera hermosa esta linda historia, además de que los personajes se sienten bien conectados.

A través del paladar de los habitantes del palacio y del mismo rey, Yeon Ji-young permite que sea cocinera del rey quien, con sus encantos y su buena comida del presente, lo lleva a esa época, dejando a todos cautivados, permitiendo hacer platillos que, aunque para nosotros son comunes, para esa época no lo eran, y eso es lo que le da el toque cómico a esta serie, porque cómo cosas tan sencillas logra cautivar a todos, al límite de tener que colocar una competencia. Aunque no todo fue color de rosa, ya que su archienemiga logra hacerle mucho daño a Yeon Ji-young, siempre el príncipe a su rescate hace que todo sea más llevadero; es una historia que mezcla sabores y tradiciones a partir del amor.

As for the setting, it was really beautiful, since everything was true to that era. Plus, the costumes and the way people spoke made it feel much more realistic: the punishments they handed out and the way they showed respect to their superiors. All of this is part of this miniseries that you have to watch, because it’s very romantic and has a touch of humor; this makes it authentic, because, even though I’m a huge fan of these K-dramas, I always like to look for ones with good reviews, just like I’m doing right now. I also really liked that, despite the betrayals, the girl and her king always showed resilience, managing to stay together despite the differences in their eras—which, in the end, led them to understand where she came from.

This is a truly captivating drama that leaves us with high expectations, because even though the ending was somewhat tragic, it turned out to be the best ending I could have imagined, and that added a wonderful touch to the series—it was a really nice gesture on the part of the creator and the director. I like series that have a romantic touch and a happy ending; I’ve always loved everything to do with love, and this miniseries had it all. Plus, we learned a lot of cooking techniques and technical terms I didn’t even know existed. Aside from the romance, we also got a master class on how food was back then compared to how it is today.

This series is intended for viewers 16 and older and premiered on August 23, 2025. Ji-young shows us how she managed to express her passion, win the prince’s heart through love and food, and also stand up to the concubine Mok-ju, who is close to the royal family due to an arranged marriage that ultimately proves invalid. En cuanto al escenario que se usó, fue realmente muy lindo, ya que todo estaba acorde a esa época. Además, el vestuario y la forma de hablar de las personas lo hicieron mucho más realista: los castigos que se hacen y la forma de guardar respeto por los superiores. Todo esto forma parte de esta miniserie que tienen que ver, porque es muy romántica y tiene un toque cómico; esto lo hace auténtica, porque, a pesar de ser fanática de estos k-dramas, siempre me gusta buscar aquellos con buenas reseñas, así tal como hago en este momento. Además, me gustó mucho que, a pesar de las traiciones, siempre hubo resiliencia de parte de la chica y su rey, para poder estar siempre juntos a pesar de las diferencias de era, que al final fue que terminaron creyendo de dónde venía.

Este es un drama muy cautivador que nos llena de muchas expectativas, ya que, aunque el final sería algo terrible, resultó ser el mejor final que pude ver, y eso le dio un toque genial a la serie, porque fue un gesto bien de parte del creador y su director. Me gustan las series que tienen un toque romántico y que tienen final feliz; siempre me ha gustado todo lo que tiene que ver con amor y esta miniserie tenía de todo. Además, aprendimos muchas técnicas de cocina y nombres técnicos que ni sabía que existían. Aparte de ese amor, también vivimos una clase magistral de cómo era la comida en esa época contra la comida en la actualidad.

Esta serie está dirigida a personas mayores de 16 años, y tuvo su lanzamiento el 23 de agosto de 2025. Ji-young nos muestra cómo logró demostrar lo que le apasiona, lograr llegar al corazón del príncipe a través del amor y el apetito y poder luchar también contra la concubina Mok-ju, quien es próxima al reino por el matrimonio compuesto, el cual al final no tiene validez. Una miniserie, todo que ver; espero la puedan mirar y me dejan sus impresiones.
