The flickering flash and the old corridor surveillance camera flickered every noon, but on that occasion it registered something different: my own shadow emerging from the back room even though I, motionless in the living room, stared at the device's screen with frozen pulses. Anxiety took my breath away when the electronic form froze in front of the lens, slowly turned its head upward, and grinned at me with pointed fangs that I don't have, just an instant before I heard bare feet running at full speed behind my seat.
