Hello, everyone.
I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the hive learner's featured post. Trust me, as a human being, there are times when you will be in desperate need and your morals and values start to look like an obstacle because at that point they are the only things stopping you from doing the wrong things. To see that need is settled, and then you get back your peace. There are times when we wish we could forget about our home training and our morals and just do what others are doing so we can get to the level they are, and at that point we become vulnerable and will be willing to accept any type of help that comes our way.
Once one becomes desperate, they become vulnerable and an easy target for those who take advantage of people and their situation. We once lived in a world where people could get help without half of the world and the entire country knowing that they got help, a world where one can get help and still have their ego and their respect because the help they got was not broadcasted to the whole world and the entire country. Today we live in a world where the little help you get is recorded and shared with half of the world and your entire country. Many of the people who got help in this world of ours have somehow lost their voice, and as for every little thing, they are reminded of how they are where they are because of the help they got.
A few months back on Twitter there was a GoFundMe for a guy to get a surgery done. After the surgery was done, he tweeted and appreciated all who had helped him, but the next few weeks and even months that followed were people taunting him. His every opinion on Twitter had a comment reminding him of the help they gave him, and some even gibed as far as telling him they will take their leg back. Lately I notice he does not tweet much anymore and holds back his opinion most of the time.
That is the type of world we live in, a world where social media sometimes gives us what we need desperately but somehow funds a way to shut us and take from us. Many people want social media fame, and the fact that we have many vulnerable people, they use them as a stepping stone to the fame they are targeting. They record a small kind gesture and post it online. Some of them claim it is a win-win for both parties because the needy got what they needed while they got the followers and fame they wanted, forgetting that the little help could actually take the ego of the recipient. Friends tease you with it, and neighbors disrespect you with it. There are so many disadvantages that only affect the recipient of your clout chasing while you get your followers and fame.
We can be desperately in need and sometimes want to receive just any help, but we should think about what this help takes from us rather than what it gives to us. Not every help should be accepted; no doubt you need it, and if you fail to accept the help, you might not get another, but our ego and self-respect are something that, once lost, is hard to get back, and no amount of money can buy it back. We should learn to turn down help that takes more from us than it actually gives us.
