Kurakkan Halapa.

Kurakkan Halapa is a traditional Sri Lankan sweet made with nutritious finger millet flour and a few simple, wholesome ingredients. Its soft texture, natural aroma, and delightful taste make it a wonderful choice for breakfast, afternoon tea, or as a special homemade treat. This traditional dish brings back cherished memories of simple and nutritious foods enjoyed by generations.

Materials Used.

150 g kurakkan (finger millet) flour 50 g wheat flour A little lukewarm water ¼ teaspoon salt A prepared sugar and coconut caramel mixture About 10 pieces of kanda leaves, lightly greased with oil

The cooking process as follows.

Now, let’s get ready to prepare the kurakkan halapa. First, take a bowl and add the kurakkan flour, wheat flour, and a little salt. Mix everything well. Then gradually add lukewarm water and knead until you form a soft dough. WhatsApp Image 2026-08-12 at 07.43.21.jpeg Next, divide the dough into small portions. Now, add a small amount of the prepared sugar and coconut caramel mixture over each flattened halapa, as shown below. Then fold the leaf in half, gently pressing the halapa into the shape of the leaf. WhatsApp Image 2026-08-12 at 07.44.23.jpeg Now, place the prepared halapa parcels in a steamer and steam them for about 20 minutes. Once they are cooked, carefully remove them from the steamer.
