I think there’s a pretty clear intention across various video game franchises to try to replicate Marvel’s financial success, I’m really happy about this because, regardless of whether the stories or narratives are told poorly, one thing that isn’t falling short and is shining brightly is the casting of these video game characters—I’m basically seeing very high-quality cosplays, and that deserves to be appreciated and applauded 🤗🤗
Sonya and Mileena are characters who contrast with each other in their interactions throughout the recent Mortal Kombat franchise, particularly in the 2021 film. While the soldier Sonya provides a very solid narrative core to drive the story forward—her outfit didn’t really catch my attention—Mileena is the complete opposite: her story offers nothing, but her outfit is something that truly amazed me 😍😍
In this review, I’ll focus on both of them, highlighting their positive and negative aspects for the franchise 😎😎👍🏻
I’m sharing an interview with actress Jessica McNamee, who plays Sonya Blade, so you can get a sense of her perspective and experience with the character and the movie—since I think these are important details, given that she’s essentially one of the main characters
I’d like to point out that the actress has a rather unique balance—she’s an excellent narrator 😃😃. In the film, she narrates the events so that we, as viewers, can understand things quickly and the film doesn’t get bogged down in unnecessary subplots. I think she has a gift for winning people over right away 😌😌
Her voice conveys wisdom—in other words, when you listen to her, you fully believe everything she says. And that’s great because these stories have a lot to offer, but honestly, most of it is just a setup for the fight scenes, which is really what we came to see in the first place, haha 😜😜
Honestly, I've liked all the Sonya Blades in the movies. Physically, Jessica McNamee wouldn't be my favorite, but she's the one I think has the best screen presence
I want to see more physical combat from her—that’s what’s missing for me. She fights Kano, but I want more choreography. Sonya is one of the most athletic characters when it comes to legwork, and I haven’t seen that in her yet. I hope in the future they’ll showcase her leg techniques more—they’d be visually stunning if incorporated into the movies 🤩🤩
I’d like to make a note here: there’s another female character named Nitara that I really liked, but basically all she does is die jajaja 😂😂. When I set out to write this post, I didn’t even remember her, haha 😅😅. I just remembered her now and am mentioning her—she’s very pretty and has a spectacular outfit, plus a death that defines her sole purpose and existence, haha 😂😂
Mileena, played by Sisi Stringer, does seem like a visual success to me, but she falls short narratively 🤔🤔
I’m sharing an interview so you can also hear about the actress’s experience bringing the character to life—listen to her talk about her excitement herself, haha. It’s always nice to hear the enthusiasm of these real people who bring these characters—iconic to an entire generation—to life
I fell in love with the casting choice. The actress really surprised me because, physically, when she puts on the costume, wow!! She’s got such a commanding presence, haha 😍😍
But I didn't like that she doesn't have that connection with Kitana—it's just that this is too important and it was left out too much 🤔🤔
It's hard to judge her because what I saw of Kitana in the second movie blew me away, so I have mixed feelings. I'd like Mileena to come back, but not just for the sake of bringing her back—I want her to have the significance that the character deserves
The actress physically commands the screen both in the trailer and in her battle with Sonya. I have mixed feelings because the movie version is basically another Mileena—I like her look so much, actually much more than Sonya’s, which makes me wish she had more significance in the Mortal Kombat story 😅😅
I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess, we called her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.
