[Movie] The Day the Earth Stood Still: Message from a Heavenly Visitor 🧑🏻‍🚀🧑🏻‍🚀, Philosophical Review

Times have changed quite a bit when I watch movies from more than sixty years ago compared to everyday life today; what was shocking back then might not be so shocking now 😅😅 But I don’t think that’s a bad thing, because thanks to science fiction, our ability to adapt allows us to mentally prepare ourselves and learn about ideological conflicts that might arise in the distant or near future as we encounter civilizations beyond our planet Earth 🤓🤓. I think the arrival of a rational, sentient being from the sky—one that isn’t human—has already happened in our species’ past. If that were to happen now, the real question is: why are they visiting us? 🧑🏻‍🚀🧑🏻‍🚀

The Day the Earth Stood Still is a movie I already had an idea about—I knew it was from many decades ago, but not that long ago, haha 😅😅 I was surprised to see that it’s from 1951. It’s incredible to me how such a simple premise—an alien visitor with a message for humanity—can spark so many narrative threads of reflection, analysis, and perspective within us, not just on a science fiction level, but also on a religious one, which is the part that, in my case, left me most pensive

I’m sharing a video from a verified YouTube channel that basically shows the scene introducing the central question the film raises: If other civilizations existed in the universe, would they be dangerous to us, or would we be dangerous to them? 😐😐

That last question is what makes the film so compelling, and what I’d love to read in the comments is your take on us as a rational species dealing with neighbors who are technologically and intellectually superior but literally just like us—and who only want peace and to live in harmony 😦😦

Movies—and the science fiction genre in particular—have repeatedly shown us war, violence, domination, and the need to defend ourselves at all costs. But what if, in reality, they are actually beings of good will who respect our home? What if they are the good ones and we are the violent ones? 🫤🫤

Beyond all of that, what if they believe in God?.... The very same God you believe in 😱😱

What if a being visiting us from beyond our skies turns out to be exactly like us in appearance and anatomy 😲😲

I believe the film has the necessary and sufficient action to captivate today’s audiences as entertainment; in that regard, it’s particularly captivating thanks to its psychedelic soundtrack. I hope you’ll be inspired to watch the film, and if you do, pay close attention to its space-themed music, which adds a lot to the action conveyed through the robot character named Gort

But for those who like to philosophize about these extraterrestrial encounters and appreciate narratives that take their time to present a much deeper intellectual conflict, the character of Klaatu, played by Michael Rennie, has more than enough of what you’re looking for—both in scenes and in lines of dialogue 🤯🤯

In my case, the statement I loved most from Klaatu is when he asserts, with all his superior galactic wisdom, that God is the only one who decides the moment of death, since there is no one else who is eternal besides Him.... When Klaatu—who has an anatomically human form—makes this statement in one of his many speeches, the film reaffirms its impact regardless of your beliefs

The latter is complicated because science fiction doesn’t usually go hand in hand with the spiritual—it’s hard to blend the two, but this movie pulls it off ☺️☺️

That's why it's a classic that manages to blend a space adventure with debates about whether we deserve to live in the universe, along with the spirituality of the soul—which, according to Klaatu's wisdom, we all possess 🧑🏻‍🚀🧑🏻‍🚀

I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess, we called her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.
