Hello creatives,
I am finally done with the judging after a much needed break. Here so happy to announce the winners for the Sketch Quest April drawing contest
Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their art with the Draw A Day community. We received seven beautiful and inspiring entries that captured everything from everyday moments and family memories to surreal twists, atmospheric night scenes, and meaningful personal statements. Your creativity continues to make this contest special and this community alive despite my delayed announcement.
Based on our criteria — Creativity (40%), Inspiration Story (30%), and Effort (30%) — here are the top three winners:
1st Place: @cjsean – “Replaced and Lost”
Creativity (40%)
This is an original scene featuring unique characters and a beautiful composition that directly responds to a timely issue facing artists today. The spontaneous “scratch art” style combined with layered details like navigation gadget, mushrooms with personality, rockets, vegetation, house, and moon-framed butterfly, creates a unique and memorable piece.
Inspiration Story (30%)
The caption powerfully connects the artwork to supporting fellow creatives and the importance of creating by hand. It brings a clear statement and emotional weight to the drawing.
Effort (30%)
Strong dedication is evident in the process — building the entire complex scene without a rough draft, and making artistic decisions along the way is really commendable.
2nd Place: @nestodibuja – Surrealist Pepper
Creativity (40%)
A clever and unique transformation of an ordinary yellow pepper into something dreamlike through a Dalí inspired work.
Inspiration Story (30%)
The caption brings the piece to life beautifully by explaining the choice of yellow (linked to dreams), the earlier sketch, the rendering process, and the personal feeling of transforming the ordinary.
Effort (30%)
I love the clear care that went into the digital work in Ibis Paint, including layers for sketch, color, lights and shadows, plus the tool used for the surreal effect. Very inspiring work
3rd Place: @steempampanga – Bridge Sketch
Creativity (40%)
An atmospheric and cinematic take on a nighttime urban scene wow I love that. Adapting a TV-inspired view while thoughtfully adjusting elements like skipping the snow shows creative decision-making and multi tasking ability.
Inspiration Story (30%)
The caption effectively captures the striking cool blue glow, light on the arches, and overall mood that inspired the artist, making the scene feel personal and atmospheric.
Effort (30%)
Solid technical focus on lighting, reflections, and a painterly digital gouache approach, with the artist working through software challenges to finish the piece. I think it was a success
